Kitty Genovese was murdered in 1964 in the Kew Gardens section of Queens, NY. Her death was unnecessary. Had any of 38 witnesses acted, i.e. calling police, subduing her attacker, she might have lived. Instead she was left to die near the entrance of her Austin Avenue apartment.
