What can a fighter pilot teach you about personal success and stress management? The judgment standard required to keep a fighter jet in the air under combat conditions may not be required in your everyday life, however, every choice you make will affect your future from that point forward.
While the process of daily decision-making may seem fluid and natural to you, there is a structure to your decision-making process that can be examined and scored in over 40 different dimensions. Your underlying structure is specifically, a value structure, and it is based primarily on your values. Your value structure provides for you the ability to evaluate, to engage in the process of evaluation.
The process of evaluation is far beyond mere “thinking”. True, evaluation involves “thinking”, but evaluation is a higher order activity, and much more sophisticated. The primary manifestation of our evaluation is our judgment, and it is our judgment that is the primary driver in our decisions and behavior. Evaluation and judgment–the use of evaluative judgment–from initial consciousness to final decision, sets us apart individually, and as humans.
Within the context of the Pilot Judgment(R) Assessment, evaluative judgment is our ability, when presented with an issue, problem, or situation; to observe and understand the dynamics of the situation; to determine what actions will make the situation better; and ultimately to take action to improve the situation.
That brings us to the crux of our work at Pilot Judgment Inc., which is the study, measurement, and improvement of judgment, your good sense, to help you improve your decisions and actions, to assist you on your path toward your success and happiness. We do that by taking you on what we call a judgment journey.
Because this process can be scored, it can be improved and used to your best advantage for your greatest possible success in life. Judgment is not a fixed, immovable quantity, it is possible that by selecting the right aspects of your value structure to augment, that you can improve your overall decision-making process, and by that, your overall quality of life. You can take the first step by completing the Pilot Judgment(R) Assessment online.
Did you know that there are actually four different types of stress, all of which can be measured separately? You might be an avid consumer of stress-management techniques, but until you can identify which type of stress is your actual problem, it may be more challenging to conquer. You may not be experiencing the manner of stress that fighter pilots encounter, but that does not make it any less real or less threatening to your happiness.
Depending on the source of stress and the strength of your coping skills, your life is affected daily by the decisions you make while under stress. If you could identify, score and name your types of stress and style of coping skill, you could properly manage and mitigate the debilitating effects, and protect your good judgment.
