All the emperor’s 16 year old son, Tarkandus Listansus, has ever wanted in life is to become the greatest Emperor of Alsheba since the legendary Duatha. Bookish and never trained with sword and shield, all Tark wants is to be honourable and stop the wars and reunite his broken empire. But history haunts him at every turn. Everyone knows that Duatha had a champion, Trorian, the strongest, most courageous man of all times, who gained his power from a mythical belt. Some say the war can never be won without Trorian’s belt. Yet Trorian's belt may be no more than myth and legend, a story grown around great men who lived hundreds of years ago.

Now the war between Alsheba and Pandropolis still rages on, and Tark finds himself embroiled in a mesh of lies and corruption, challenged from every quarter. His father favours his cousin Dimitri Diatronis, yet soon there is another contestant for Trorian's belt in the enigmatic figure of Mitra Mitraeous, a man who stirs Tark to forgotten memori..
