A nice idea. This story poses one very big question and never even attempts to answer it, yet succeeds in spite of that, nor does it fall into the trap of dwelling too much upon that question. The characters are clear and the writer has worked hard to imbue the piece with vivid description.
At times, though, the description seemed forced rather than natural (eg "Gilda shivered beneath a faded blue blanket, gazing at the small dancing flame.") and it tends to spell the details out rather than suggest them. The setting of a run-down old cottage in a graveyard afforded many opportunities for great imagery, which were generally spurned.
A generous 4 out of 5, rather than a solid 4 out of 5.

Not particularly good or bad. It never felt like it could have been real.

Gilda looked at the golden mask on her husband’s Wayne West face. The 2 had been married 60 yrs. She pondered how much it might be worth. He was buried with it on.
Cool book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written mysterious thrilling short story (book). It was very easy to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could make a great mystery movie or mini TV series. No doubt in my mind a very easy rating of 5 stars for this short story (book).
Thank you for the free short story (book)
