About Nicky Charles

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:

In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.

Nicky works full-time and writes in her off-hours, few though they may be! In the next few years she hopes to retire from her day job and concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing.

When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot.

Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting back story, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story.

Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year.

When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate.

This book is awesome!!! I still can't get enough of Damien. I love everything about the book, from the beginning until the end. I love Sam's character, it fits perfectly with Damien’s. I loved it when they argued, agreed, fought and adored each other. I was happy that Damien finally let go of Beth’s memories. He deserves to be happy with no less than the mighty “ Sam Harper” LOL. Applause to Nicky for having written an amazing and brilliant book!

So where do I start? I laughed out loud, I cried out loud. This book, by far, was my favorite from the Lycan Series.
I got back into reading a couple of years ago. A friend told me "You should read this book about Lycans." WTH is a Lycan? I soon found out. Ms Charles has captivated me from the very beginning. Her first book, The Mating, had me wanting more. Since then I have (im)patiently waited for each one to come out. Ms. Charles has a way of making you feel each character, each feeling, each emotion. I highly recommend her Law of the Lycan series. It will leave you wanting more. I can't wait for the next book.

I am a fan of Nicky Charles and there isn't a thing I wouldn't read by her. I impatiently waited for this book! I fell in love with Damien when we first met him and my heart was in pieces for all he has had to go through, he so deserves a happily ever after, but only with me. *sigh* Since we can not be together, Sam is a perfect fit for him. This story is filled with mystery, suspense, and humor, I love Sam! She is a kick butt kind of woman, I admire that quality. She loves her pack and will do what it takes to make sure they thrive. I won't say anymore, but this, we get to take a peek into some of the other characters from previous books and see how things are with them. I just love this book! Go grab yourself and copy, settle in to read a wonderful story, you will not be able to put it down until the Fin

Just when we think its safe to step away from 'The Law of the Lycans' Nicky Charles brings us all back with this amazing book.

The story of Damien Masterson is cunning, smart and heart wrenching. We all know how the death of this mate sent him to the brink of sanity, we all know how it was those he called family that kept him hanging on. But now he hides behind the whole 'rogue' mystique and on the brink once again.

Nicky uses our love for her former hero's like Kane and Elise Sinclair and Reno Smith to build believable scenarios to help Damien regain something of a 'normal' life. She also updates us all on our favourite characters as they are entwined within the storyline.

New characters such as Sam Harper and the Chicago pack, Dante and the mysterious Mr Stone keep us all captivated to the last word.

Unexpected sub plots will have you saying 'I never saw that coming.' And in some cases will raise your anger to boiling point. A box of tissues is required too as you witness a heartbreaking good-bye.

This book is a must for any woman needing a 'girl power' fix. Sam Harper is strong, determined, confident in who she is and the role she has. She's also sexy and cocky and has Damien reeling with confusion as he still grieves for his lost mate. With the back streets of Chicago being the setting, it's a perfect mix for their story.

A very easy five stars, you will not be disappointed. It is time and money well spent. It is a story you can read over and over again and along with the other five (The Mating, The Keeping, The finding, Bonded, Betrayed, days of the rogue) they make a great collection for any reading device......

I've been a longstanding fan of Nicky Charles' books. In fact, her stories, along with S.C. Stephens and a few others, were the catalyst to my returning reading obsession many years ago. And I've never turned back.

The Mating, The Finding, The Keeping, Bonded and Betrayed: Days of the Rogue are the first in The Law of the Lycan series. All five books have high marks in my standards. There's action, suspense and a load of romance to sweeten the deal. The story in the whole is beautiful with deep angst, great subplots and drool worthy alpha males.

Betrayed, Book Two: The Road to Redemption is Damien Masterson's story. We first met him in Bonded, he was the young, cocky partner of Reno Smith while working for Lycan Link. He also got a spotlight in Betrayed: Days of the Rogue where we see him struggle just to survive waking up and make it a single day with a semi lucid grasp on sanity. Damien is struggling with his past. While working with Lycan Link, an organized group of Lycans with one common goal of keeping order and upholding the Book of the Law, he brushed hairs with purist groups hell bent on keeping their lineage "pure" and lost his blood bonded mate and unborn pup in a tragic explosion. The pain from it all caused Damien to retract into himself and his wolf take over, turning his back on his friends and the Lycan Link. The Road to Redemption starts where "Days" left off.

In "Road", he's helping a friend and Alpha for another pack by going undercover to scope out possibilities for a takeover. While doing so, he meets up with Sam; an independent, spirited and young acting Alpha for the Chicago pack. Little does Damien know, he will learn a lot more about Sam and her pack than financial statistics and the steady decline in their genetic pool.

With other worries besides Kane Sinclare's impending take over looming over the Chicago pack's head, Damien is forced to face his inner demons and choose a new path in his life. Will his wolf and his human side come to an agreement in life and new love? Will Beth stand in his way of a fresh start?

New characters as well as twists and turns no one saw coming are sure to keep you flipping pages. Betrayal, lust and dangerous personalities are definitely in there as well. Nicky Charles does it again, pulling her reader in from the very first sentence and not letting go until the last page. An EXCELLENT edition to the already FANTASTIC series of Lycans and the law and love they live by.

Fair warning: You WILL have a book hangover when finished reading!

I was eagerly awaiting this latest book as I couldn't imagine where the series was going next. Having come to know and love all of the characters it was almost like waiting for that long awaited letter home from a loved one.

Damien is at first glance cold, tough and uncaring. Hidden behind his cold exterior is a heart that has been crushed and love is something he feels is best left in the past. Will things change when a new woman comes on the scene?

Enter Sam. Not your typical pretty girl but rather a woman who has things to prove to others seemingly without any apologies or excuses. Her life is hard and living isn't easy. Love is in short supply in her life but she knows her place so gives it little thought.

Telling you more would rob you of an amazing reading experience. I will allow you to travel with them through darkness, need, history and longing.

Picking up this book you will want to devour it in one reading. Perhaps you will even do as I did and not put the book down. Reading throughout the night with your emotions moving quickly and deeply. Tears one moment and laughing out loud to yourself the next. The emotional roller coaster consumes you and drags you ever deeper.

A must read - no doubt - an easy five stars - Nicky Charles once again shows that she is one very talented writer who can bring characters to light, even when they prefer to hide in the darkness.
