Having grown up on an isolated farm in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales I went to work on a sheep & cattle property in the west of the state. After seven years of hard saving I set of by ship to Europe for a bit over a year and traveled constantly for ten months before getting a job at Harrods for the last two months. I married an Irish girl before returning to Australia and after several years working at a variety of jobs on the land & four years as a fettler on the railway we bought three hundred acres near Tamworth where we conducted an equestrian center for thirty-seven years. Here we had great success with my wife competing all over the state & I filled up my spare time with performing in musicals and as a volunteer telephone Councillor for seventeen years.
Our riding school featured in the Lonely Planet magazine and we were runner up for an award for the best tourist business. Apart from our life with horses we both paint and have had some success in this field. In writing my book I wanted people to know that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Having very little to no education I earned a diploma in communication from what is now the University of Western Sydney when I was in my forties. I am now retired on the Sunshine Coast, still painting & writing & as the autumn sets in I have no plans of stopping at this point.

Les, I know at the beginning you shared your memoirs with me to ask my opinion if it would be a story to publish. I've read your story and I extend my deepest congratulations on a job well done!
Your journey has been tough and to commit your story to print, that takes courage and determination. You've displayed both.
I've enjoyed reading your story and all I can say now is wait for the movie.
