Fire Sail: A Miraculous Attainment of a Family's Dream – Part 1

Rated 4.00/5 based on 3 reviews
This is a true, almost unbelievable story, of how our Maine family, over a 7-year period and on a shoestring budget, with sweat, tenacity, and what we conceded as Divine Intervention, managed to build a beautiful and seaworthy 40-foot sailboat. Then, a couple of years later, sell most everything we owned, enroll our 2 sons in correspondence school, and sail away for a 2-year adventure. More

About Roger A. Marin

Roger Marin: The author and his wife ( both formerly of Maine) now reside winters in South Carolina and summers in Maine aboard their sailboat,Tribute, which they built from a bare hull. Time allowing, the author enjoys writing about the sailing adventures he and his family experienced/endured (Fire Sail Parts 1 and 2) and about more recent events he and his wife shared during their 14 years of day-sail chartering in SC and ME (Confessions of a Charter Captain ---pending).

Three grandchildren and two sons provide enjoyment for the author and his wife, especially when the families visit them aboard Tribute.

Sailing and tennis provide fun activities.

A engrossing autobiographical tale that describes the determination of a Maine family to follow their dream of building a boat and leaving their workaday lives behind to take to the seas. The setbacks, formidable obstacles and the deprivation that they face with much humor and astonishing single mindedness provide life lessons in following your dreams whatever they may be.

If you love the sea, and if you have craved the freedom of sailing to parts unknown, this book is a charming, wonderful read! When they finally launch their sailboat after seven years of sacrifice and determination, you'll find yourself holding back tears of joy at their triumph. You'll be "driven to the rails" with this unique and gutsy Maine family. Compelling read!!

I just finished 'Fire Sail'. What do you mean man, I can't download part 2??? What a fun read. Knowing the Marin's I have laughed at the tales prior to reading the book. You have to smile at the determination this family has has endured. It's obvious they have a great marriage as well as family unity. Living their dream has only given them a stronger bond. Enjoy Maine and when we come aboard Tribute this summer we shall do it with a better appreciation of your love of this magical boat and each other. Sail on.... Julie McCrum, Aiken, SC
