Short description

... probably the funniest novel ever. Very dry adult taboo-busting humour pushed to the limit!

Extended description

Block of 6 is a dry humoured present day story about the ups and downs of a bunch of unemployable misfits who have been housed in the middle of nowhere. The characters are so diverse that prostitution, alcoholism, racism, blackmail, jealousy, and even murder, all rear their ugly heads. Characters include: Butch: a thickset meat-head who lives in the basement. Isy: an Anna Kornikova look-a-like, addicted to alcohol, drugs and sex. Joss: an intelligent, worldly teenager. Rob and Jane: a couple whose marriage is a sham. Rob is a tight fisted, womanising racist. Karl: a British Asian. Terry: a fifty year old, suicidal, couch potato with a speech impediment. Spence: the protagonist, unable to believe the turmoil around him.

Stumbled across this under Drama. Drama it had, as well as Humour (and a lot of it), Thriller and suspense, Erotica and Mystery. Enjoyed the first person voice. One for the open minded.

What more would you want out of a book? Just read Dumas's Death by Madness ... Bloody great!

Where do I start with this masterpiece? Firstly, I totally agree with lalilu: “fast and furious”, and so-o-o funny! Feeling overworked and having not had a good laugh for far too long, I only had to read the first paragraph to get me started. From then on I couldn’t put it down. My children were confused, asking why I kept laughing so much. The characters were certainly diverse. Dumas gave each of them a voice so distinctive that within a few chapters I noticed he was able to drop the same old: he said, she said, said whoever etc. The whole package, from story line to dialogue, Britishness, love, tragedy, sex, addition etc, gave an insight into how people would live if unemployed and placed in the middle of nowhere with no amenities, and all in need of some sort of psychiatric attention. I’m smiling now with flashbacks of this brilliantly written novel! Some people are of the opinion that dry humour has to be jokingly offensive, then there are the professionals like Russell Brand, Ricky Gervais and Phil Dumas. Block of 6 is one to keep in your library. Just pick any page, read a few lines, and laugh! Bloody well done Phil Dumas and a very whole-hearted thank you!

What a read. I have been downloading books from this site for a while now but had to join just to say how good this book was. At one point I wet myself with laughter. Loved the characters, they were all so different to each other. Loads of twists. Intellegent work. Well done Mr.Dumas.

Certainly lives up to the claim of being probably the funniest novel ever. This is with no doubt the funniest I have read. Me and my friends are always quoting some of its dry one liners. Watch out for Phil Dumas. He HAS to be related to Alexandre! Bo6 is a masterpiece no less!

I really enjoyed this and had quite a few laugh out loud moments while reading as well as "What the hell does that mean?" when I couldn't grasp the slang. At least the unknown slang also caused me to giggle, even if I'm not sure exactly what I'm laughing at.

Yee-Hah, Cowboy! That was fast and furious. And for a non-native English-speaker sometimes hard to read, because to miss a word means to miss a punchline. I think I just read it again!
