I thought the book would provide new insights on the lives of Japanese. Well, its actually a book about the experience of an outsider in Japan. While it illuminates some ideas about the Japanese society, the style of writing itself is not really gripping. I am not an author, but I could imagine this to be written in a more exciting and personal manner to reflect some of the broader patterns discerned/gleamed of the Japanese society.
