The novel could make a good film. It has the pace of a film, building to such an ending. I read all kinds, I think this one is a blend, good suspense, the romance is there but not screaming at you, the danger and action keep it alive.

I go for mysteries and thrillers mostly. There are no exploding airplanes in this novel but I did get pulled in pretty deep, plenty of question marks to piece together. It's not gratuitous but it's pretty intense, the villains are just a bit raw at times but that's a villain for you. It has a smooth polished quality, almost poetic in places. The main characters grew on me. Very glad I read it, I recommend the book. I'll probably read more good suspense now because of this one. A smart book.

I loved the suspense and the forbidden love angle. The story felt so real. Also the characters and where they are.

Highly Recommend--I found the book well done overall. Vorhis creates some living characters, with a matrix of suspense that builds steadily as chapters progress. The protagonist comes across solid and the plot tracks, interweaving detail in what I thought was a satisfying way. I like the development of some of the bad guys too. My biggest complaint is simply that I want more. I'll be looking for other published works by this author.

I loved this novel. I like character driven novels anyway, and books like this one are the reason why. It was also taut; I had to see what happened. I love it when characters take on lives of their own, and I loved the timeless, chivalrous quality of the romantic undercurrent in this story. Suspense, mystery, an incredible setting, forbidden love and heroism all together are a potent combo. I hope a sequel is around the corner.
