Extended description

Lovely young Silvia Bradstreet comes from London to an isolated estate off the coast of colonial Georgia to be an indentured servant. But a far different fate awaits her. Clothed in finery and pampered like a queen, she finds herself a pawn in the devious schemes of Wilhelm Schlange, master of Serpent Tree Hall, as he manipulates the family members who hope to inherit his vast fortune. Haunted by ghostly dreams and threatened by the island's deadly secrets, Silvia cannot trust her own senses, much less anyone around her. Most of all, she dare not trust her growing passion for Schlange's nephew, handsome sea captain Roman Toller. His lips move like a hot flame over her flesh and draw the very breath from her body. Can Roman offer Silvia an escape from her dark fate--or is he leading her closer to destruction?

I just couldn't get into it. I enjoyed the prequel that had me desperately wanting to read the full book, but once I began Dark Splendor I found the writing just seemed to stagnate. I thought the concept was great but I just couldn't lose myself in the way it was written. I felt no emotion towards any of the characters and I found myself skimming over quite a lot of the overly long descriptions of the clothes, castle, etc. Like I said, I really did like the concept though.

Absolutely loved this book. After reading Dark Prelude I immediately bought Dark Splendor because I was hooked. I liked how it keeps you guessing and all the different twists which made the book entertaining and captivating. The downside for me was the abrupt ending and i was expecting the story to finish with a bigger bang. Otherwise great read.

The prequel short leading into this was a perfect hook. It got me to read the preview and then purchase the full novel all on it's own.

The Novel is a nice little romance. A light easy read with enjoyable characters and an interesting plot. The ending felt a little flat to me, after all the build up I was expecting a little more twist.

Over all, worth a few dollars and a few hours of your time.
