Short description

An archaeologist sets out to turn the academic world on its ear. Kennet Forbes, teacher at Thunder Bay University, volunteers to find his missing colleague. He finds himself embroiled in violence, murder, and mystery. Forbes, former high-profile newsman, rediscovers the wilds north of Lake Superior. In the process he awakens his own demons.

Extended description

Alfred Vanderhorst, archaeologist, is convinced that the Beardmore Viking relics are genuine, not pawns in a hoax. It is his personal mission to prove they once did repose on an old mining claim near Lake Nipigon.
When Vanderhorst fails to report in, Kennet Forbes is enlisted to find his missing colleague. Forbes, teacher at Thunder Bay University, soon finds himself embroiled in violence, murder, and mystery.
Forbes, one-time war correspondent and former news man on national TV, rediscovers his old stomping grounds. He returns to the wilds north of Lake Superior, where he grew up.
Forbes finds himself prowling a terrain full of prospecting trenches and mines with collapsing pillars. He finds more than he bargained for, including a couple of cold cases that nobody had known were cold, let alone cases.
Forbes, amateur sleuth, works with the detectives of the Ontario Provincial Police, who can do things and go places he can't, and can keep the local crime family honest.

Really exciting and suspenseful story set in a place that has always been mysterious to ne and reminded me of a wildwest of sorts. Had me captivated to the very end . Unfortunately I thought the e ding was weak leaving many things only forcefully resolved. Not at all on par withe rest of the novel. Still worth the read though. And releasing it on smashwords was great too. Allowed me to buy the book on my iPhone from Lake superior provincial park while on vacation - worth every penny!

Found this book to be very well written.Capitivating, hard to put down once you start reading it.My wife was born and raised in Beardmore and is not one to do much reading but she also read and enjoyed the book. Was very surprised to find a local writer who could write a book such as this that kept the reader interested right to the very end. We hope Mr.Lavoie will be writing more books and look forward to his next one.

I purchased this book on the strength of the columns written by the author for the Times Star Greenstone. I have not read the book yet but I am looking forward to it.
