Short description

A clan of vampires are trapped in an abandoned tomb for 1000 years. Above them, holding them prisoner is an ancient monastary. Suddenly the monastary is being abandoned and desanctified. Finally, after all this time, is the freedom of the vampires finally at hand?

Extended description

They used to feed on the dying crusaders in the holy land. Then they were discovered by the priests, followed to their lair and sealed inside with a monastary built over the entrance. A clan of vampires have been waiting 1000 years for their release, trapped inside an ancient Egyptian tomb.
Now it is 2011 and the church sees the monastary as a financial liability. The monks are to move and the holy ground desanctified. One priest still believes, still believes that the holy mission is vital and that beneath the church vampires really do wait, silently for the day where they can once again roam the world, free to feed.

Mary L. Underwood has written a story that will remain with you long after reading. This is an award winning story that will remain as a classic in the annals of horror and vampire lore.

I loved the characters. They all sounded believable and genuine. The plot was well developed. I appreciated the attention to details - i.e. the differences between the world of today and the one they'd left a thousand years ago.
The ending of final scene was amazing. Vlad's assessment of the modern world was dead on. I adored how, despite Brother Sebastian's insistence in seeing Vlad as the evil one, he chose to let him live.
Definetely worth recommending.

A vampire story unlike any I have read before. A great read for anybody looking for something refreshing, and perhaps a little scary.

This story by Mary Underwood is a satisfying bite :) in its short story form. Yet it leaves one wishing for more.
A fun and tantalizing tale.
