This is a humorous tale revolving around how we define beauty. Set in the hills of western North Carolina in the late 1860's, just after the Civil War. I really enjoyed this story and especially the characters in it! The descriptions of the characters and what they go through is hilarious. ... There are a few serious moments in the story about family loss in the Civil War that is so tender and pulls at your heartstrings. It’s easy to get caught up in the characters and what they’re going through. The storyline moves constantly; never a dull moment. At the same time , it’s always believable.
