This is an allegory for older children (ages 8-13 and up) about the environment and about spiritual life. Each of the animals wants peace and a clean place to live, but each one has his or her own idea about how and where to obtain them. It is a "hare and tortoise" story in that the turtle is slow but determined - and he is the one who learns the lesson of the arduous journey: we can't run away from home just because it isn't perfect; because we are part of what makes it a special place. We have to learn to see the good in where we are and strive to make it better.Tags
