In a last ditch effort after a cure for Henry's Asperger's, no matter the cost in money or convictions, Marian's parents move them all out to Albuquerque to join a fringe religious community. Her mom's best friend married a man, Pastor Andervender, who claims to have the gift of healing by the laying on of hands.

Against her will Marian is pulled into Pastor Andervender's church and its secrets as she tries to protect her brother from Andervender's driven, and at times frightening, ministrations.

In the next few months she will discover more than she ever wanted to know about herself, mystical dreams, and the dark side of human nature. And she will find love where she expected to find only hate.

For she is about to meet John Andervender, whose family is falling apart even faster than her own...and over whom a dangerous shadow hangs that draws ever closer.
