Kingdom of Blood is the first book in the epic new fantasy fiction series that chronicles one soldier’s rise among a crumbling empire, torn apart by a hundred years of war with their neighbour.
The bloody struggle is told through the eyes of a poor landowner named Markus, a recently qualified cavalryman in the service of the Werstrian empire and eager for victory and glory. Together with his older brother their freshly trained unit make its way to the River Ensee which provides a natural barrier to the cities of their Kingdom.
When the Karsian savages to the West launch an unexpected and relentless assault into the East against the city of Leinzberg, little can stand in their way. Villages are utterly destroyed and the soldiers scattered to the wind. With winter setting in and little hope for victory, Markus sides with the most unlikely of allies and flees into the mysterious Salbein mountain range. Having only the few months of winter to train and hone his skills, Markus sets out on an epic adventure in search of enlightenment as a fighter and to find capable men who will follow him. With the future of his country balanced on the very tip of a sword, he must muster every ounce of heroism, skill and leadership to join the fight and drive the Karsian armies back across the Ensee. He must rise to become a champion of the Empire.
Kingdom of Blood is a classic work of realistic low fantasy fiction set against the background of a colourful and brutal age of Kingdoms, knights, gunpowder and brutal hand-to-hand combat.
