A funny, smart, engaging book - it's nice to see something that's aimed at teen BOYS (and isn't fantasy or Sci Fi)! Jay Gooby is a sarcastic teen with a great sense of humor, but he's kind of down on himself, mostly from having to deal with the school bully. Then some life events come along (I don't want to give away spoilers) that shake up his view of the world ... all in between hockey practices and games! This is great reading for boys who normally wouldn't pick up a book; nice and light-hearted but at the same time has some really important themes in there. The way they're presented is just perfect - not heavy-handed or preachy at all. I'm impressed that there's so much in this relatively short book! Te length is perfect for teenage boys, especially reluctant readers - it won't scare them away at all, in fact it might get them into reading!
