I expected to enjoy this in that "this is an indie friend-of-a-friend that I'm sure is competent but still rough on the edges" sorta way. And for that expectation, Tad, I owe you an apology. You've done very well here! It's the characters are living and engaging, the story is more believable than anything similar I may have read before. In short, I enjoyed it, and I'll grab whatever else you put out in the future. I wish you continued success!

Shadow of the Past is a great supernatural thriller. The main character, Mark, is a guy that just can't seem to catch a break, but you keep pulling for him. This book was hard to put down. I was invested in the story right away and had to find out what happened next.

From the first page, Shadow of the Past launches the reader into a mystery that they'll be dying to find the answers to - at least when they're not caught up in the day to day character drama of high school life. With a satisfying ending that doesn't rely on any cheap tricks to tie the story together, Shadow of the Past is definitely a mystery worth reading.

I'm horrible at articulating myself in reviews, but Shadow of the Past was absolutely fantastic and a must read.

This book is the reason iPads and Kindles exist. Plus, the author has a delightful giggle, and makes the English language his bitch, aching for more. Buy this book, or you hate literature.

Shadow of the Past was a book that I greatly enjoyed. The plot sucks you in and it doesn’t let you go. The main character, Mark, is extremely likeable and relatable. You want all of the best in the world for him even though you know that things will only get a lot worse before they get better. I can’t remember the last time that I was this emotionally invested in a character. Shadow of the Past will make you laugh and then completely creep you out a page or two later. At the end of the day this book is an easy read and a fun ride. Cleveland wrote an impressive debut novel and I’m looking forward to see what he does next.
