Ransom X

Rated 4.88/5 based on 17 reviews
Martin Legacy was a top field interrogator before his life was shattered by a random crime. He withdrew to a basement post in the FBI, developing a mythic reputation as a brilliant malcontent. An agent brings him an active case. An abduction ring is preying on women, using them in adult films, ransomed for the price of pornography. They just took the daughter of an old friend, the head of the FBI.

About I.B. Holder

I.B. Holder understands the importance of Internet credibility; therefore he is a tri-athlete, multi-lingual black-belt who circumnavigated the globe on a waverunner. He looks much like Daniel Craig.

Excellent but disturbing plot. The main character is eccentric but interesting. I class this as a girly type of story; the action scenes are unrealistic. Example: lead bullets do not cause gas tanks to explode. There are several others. It also needs a good editing. It deserves a 3.5.

I really liked this book, The premise was great and you always wanted to find out what happens next, it was really suspensfull, However I think he needs to give it to an editor because I often had to re-read a sentance to figure out what the author was getting at, as a word was missing or such. This book was free on smashwords.com and I recomend everyone read it

An excellent book! Different than most others with a mix of Agent Moulder from X-Files to Spec Ops thrillers. Agent Legacy (FBI) is a different kind of thinker. So different that he is seen as dangerous and strange, yet so effective he has to kept around. Another of the many "Reluctant Hero" types I like so much. I'd call him a loaner, but he has a daughter, Chess, that is the most important thing in his life. He is a social misfit though.
The subject matter of the story is a bit disturbing and "adult" as it centers around an illegal porn ring, but it has little that would be called graphic, but you know what is going on and the psychology of it is made apparent by the author. The clock is ticking when the next unwilling actress appearing on the live web show is the Director's kidnapped daughter. The pace is fast and furious. Loved it and hope the author releases another in the Legacy series soon!

Puts most of the best sellers you've read to shame. Truly compelling characters and a perfect ransom scheme. One big disappointment: I really wanted to shoot the villain myself.

A very well written book. It's tense, exciting, gripping and the main character is someone you can relate to. I shall look out for more novels by this author. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While it could certainly benefit from the attentions of a proof reader/editor, the lack of that 'publisher finish' didn't detract from the grip of this thriller. The characters seem unique, the plotline was credible (at least to me), and I hope to read more of this intriguing cast of characters.

This was an extremely good book, it reminds me of a criminal minds, the mentalist, and hannibal lecter all rolled into one.
My only dislike was how the author changed the names of some of the characters, it made it a little confusing, im not sure what happened, maybe he planned to do and then missed changing it everywhere, im not really sure, but it was very annoying, other then that I enjoyed book very much and i really can not wait to read the next installement, and hopefully this writer will realize his mistakes in this book and correct them in his next. A++++++++++ LOVED IT!!!

Review by: Hev Maclean on Nov. 05, 2009 :
Holder's writing slips gracefully from poetry to shock to dark humor. His humor is sometimes so subtle that it encourages the reader to go more slowly and process every detail so as not to miss a clever quip, which is in direct conflict with the desire to read faster to find out what's going to happen next. Unlike the typical novel of this genre, which tends to be somewhat "fluffy" and shallow, Ransom X feels deep and intricate. The characters and story, however, capture the reader's attention and interest from the very beginning. Images spring from Holder's words, creating a clear picture in the mind's eye of the people and places he describes. His dialog is sharp and meaningful, and his characters are complex, quirky, and refreshingly appealing. Ransom X is a truly enjoyable read, and without a doubt, a sign of great things to come from an extremely talented writer.

Review by: Bob Chukka on Nov. 04, 2009 :
The author's sharp attention to character details makes this book a thoroughly satisfying read, coupled with a shocking twist to what would ordinarily be a ransom demand. In fact, there is no demand from the criminal who kidnaps young women for a fate truly horrendous. Martin Legace, an FBI interrogator whose own wife's murder has led him and his teen daughter to a deeply troubled and paranoid existence, is forced to take on a missing person case led by over-achiever Agent Wagner, not by her demands but his own demons. As the plot unfolds, we continue to climb into the characters minds and to understand their every move and thought as they follow a trail that leads to a deadly Internet game. The author succeeds in bringing us down the path to the unspeakable crime, all the while finding ourselves walking with them, be it the two FBI agents or the criminal. And sometimes it takes us to places we'd rather not be, yet we have to go. I sense Legace's character is good for many more stories.
