You are playing a game online; masterminding the perfect crime. Or at least you think it’s a game.
A seemingly normal web site inviting game players to mastermind the perfect crime is the façade for billionaire Lawrence Hackett’s real-life game of Mastermind—an invitation-only competition for a select few to see who can perform the perfect heist and win an enormous bounty.
Special Agent Mitchell Parker and his team—Ellen Beetson, Jack Jameson and Kimberly Moore—while conducting routine surveillance at a university in Washington D.C., learn of Project Aurum—a plan to hijack the gold plane that regularly runs gold collection courier services to the Nevada mines—just one of the robberies that forms part of that year’s Mastermind competition.
Parker and his team realise they have only scratched the surface and learn of the magnitude of the crime ring which is operating on an international scale.
Enlisting the help of international agents through the established Trans-national Crime Units, Parker goes after Lawrence Hackett in London, assigning his team to simultaneously prevent Mastermind operations in Paris and Washington D.C.
Ellen foils an attempt to steal the priceless Russian Fabergé Eggs on display at the Louvre in Paris. Back in Washington D.C., Samantha is busy trying to prevent the theft of the Dead Sea Scrolls from the Library of Congress and Parker, anticipating an ambush set up by Lawrence Hackett, sets up a trap of his own.
On the ground in London, Parker and his team flesh out their plan to bring Hackett and his team into the Underground on the pretence of accepting a ransom for the return of information.
With both sides well prepared, a fast-paced showdown takes place in the tube, but Hackett takes one too many gambles and meets his death underneath a train.
With Mastermind defeated, Parker and his team return to Washington, where a romance between Parker and his roommate, Charlotte, has a chance to kick off.
