An eloquent short story which makes its points well, and is rousing in its own quietly thrilling manner.

What an excellent story. I thought every word pushed the story onwards to a satisfying conclusion. Great talent. Well done.

Quick read; poignant story. Thank you, CE Wills. Well done.
The 1965 Civil War movie, "Shenandoah," starred James Stewart, Doug McClure, Glenn Corbett, Patrick Wayne, Rosemary Forsyth, and Katharine Ross, along with other great character actors of the era. There's a Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenandoah_%28film%29, as well as an Internet Movie Database page here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059711/. Oddly enough, in light of your character's name, James Stewart played a patriarch in the Shenandoah Valley named Charlie Anderson.
