Extended description

Groblins tend to keep themselves to themselves and very few people even know they exist. Grum has been thrown out of his home by his two brothers and has to prove that he is a worthy groblin before they will let him back in. As all groblins think that humans only exist in the worst kind of scary bed-time stories, Grum decides the best way to show he is brave is to go and find one and bring it back home. Along the way he comes across Burly, a mellow kind of bear, who takes him under his paw and together they go to town! They get into all kinds of trouble once they get there and end up being chased by a policeman and have to escape on skateboards. They meet Mike, an angel, and Max, a young human, and they discover cup cakes, ice cream, kittens and what humans are really all about. But will Grum manage to convince his brothers that he is a brave and worthy groblin?

"BEYOND THE FOREST" BY KATE TENBETH

Another beautiful story about Grum and Burly, this is actually the beginning of their friendship. When Grum is tossed out of Groblin territory by his mom and two brothers he is told to prove himself a true Groblin. He soon finds Burly and strikes a friendship that is meant to last forever.

When reading Kate's books I'd suggest reading this one first, it is a magical tell of an unlikely friendship and starts the process of Grum and Burly's adventures together. Once again, wonderfully written, and illustrated this is a book that kids will thoroughly enjoy.

This is such a beautiful book - both the story and the illustrations are captivating. It is well written and the characters are truly loveable. Ms Tenbeth's descriptions made me actually laugh out loud! This is the sort of book I would have liked to have read to my children when they were young and I shall certainly recommend this to anyone I know who has young ones - they will be enchanted. Bravo Kate!

I was unable to put this book down after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Kate Tenbeth's story is absolutely charming and I can't wait to read this to my goddaughter because it's so entertaining. If this was merely a good read, I would have given it 4 stars, but they say great art leaves you changed after you experience it and this book's illustrations are gorgeous. Every home should have a Burly Bear. Kate Tenbeth has, with one amazing work, propelled herself into the publishing world.
