Ivan Hughs is a young man and soldier in this world. Trying to make living better for the city he lives in and trying to bring a brighter future has also been his goal. But when he arrives home to find his find his girl friend infected, he falls into a mess he never sees coming.

He is bite by a vampire that had broken into his apartment. Yet this one has abilities that none of the others seem to have seeming to be on the edge of supernatural rather than believable. Being bit Ivan knows well he is infected. He runs, but is caught. Not by the soldiers or other vampires, but by a strange woman named Alex Kyzer. She injects something in his blood to stop the infection part way and says she needs him. She says he has a psychic link the main vampire and she needs him for that.
