on March 02, 2011 :
Fate and Destiny, by Claire Collins, opens with icy winds and high drama. Man, Andrew, and dog, Shadow, find woman, Destiny, lying half-dead in snow. The main characters, including dog, come quickly to life, and the warmth of Andrew’s cramped cabin, well-prepared for winter weather, settles round the reader. Destiny’s on the run. Andrew’s on his own and enjoying it. And Shadow’s just a gorgeous affectionate friend. But the snow-storm passes and storms of Destiny’s life take over, carrying the story through various excitements to a satisfying end.
In the meantime, many more people are introduced. A small Colorado town lights the dark. Burgers with cheese are eaten. The local cop and his delightful sister get involved with a Vegas thug. Family proves a powerful force in the lives of everyone, and lessons are learned about love and trust and self-worth.
Fate drives Destiny to Andrew’s door. Will love keep her there or will she be lost, to the weather, to fate’s darker side, or even to death? You’ll have to read the book to find out, and in doing so you’ll meet a host of people whose stories surely aren’t finished, and you’ll enjoy the comforts of a wonderful cabin, surrounded by glorious white. Complete though this story most certainly is, I hope there are more in the series. And, while I may have found some pieces of back-story frustrating, Claire Collins’ book leaves me eager to see who these people will meet as they move forward.
