Paola is a fifteen year old girl that is murdering people, only she has no idea or memory of what she has done. The town is terrified, and the police can’t figure out who is killing these people or why. The murderer doesn’t seem to care how much evidence she leaves, but there are no matches to her prints. Based on the murder scenes, the police believe it is a man who is murders these people. Dr. Sullivan has been experimenting on Paola with a medication breakthrough that he created. The drugs, which she believes she’s taking for menstrual cramps, are actually hypnotics and “rookies”. Mixed together, they make a powerful and dangerous drug. Bill Blackfox is a special agent from the BIA, who is placed undercover in the Kephart Police Department, when the bureau finds out some unusual activities are going on. While there, he meets Paola’s mother, Lennie Warren. She has a sense of humor that he’s not used to, and the most beautiful eyes he has ever seen. He finds himself caring for her more than he wants to. Lennie Warren is widowed when her husband, a Kephart police detective is murdered five years earlier, and the circumstances surrounding his death is under fire. New evidence surfaces that points to an inside job, and Bill is sure Lennie’s husband, Vaughn Carlos was murdered because of a drug deal gone wrong. There is a lot of sexual tension between Lennie and Bill, but Bill is fighting his feeling for the beautiful woman. He was raised in South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, and went through a lot to get to where he is today. Lennie, on the other hand, is a white woman, the people he grew to mistrust. He fights his feelings, but when she is kidnapped by someone that she and everyone else trusted, Bill goes after her and realizes how much he loves her. Lennie has managed to escape, but now she is hurt and lost in the Black Hills, and her kidnapper is after her. If she can’t find her way out, Lennie will surly die of hypothermia. Bill has to hurry to save her Sacred Black Hills of South Dakota. Bill finds her, after he finds the Kidnapper. Things go wrong though, and Bill has to kill him in self defense. By the time he finds Lennie, she is nearly gone. He carries her back to the cabin and when she is finally on the mend, Bill confesses his love to her.
