When his turn comes about to stand for judgment the devil intervenes on his behalf, wondering why a man like Nick whose only crime was infidelity to his wife, a pleasure that all of hell's minions enjoy practicing, should be judged so harshly.
The tribunal members agree with the devil, but since Nick can't be sent back to his own body on earth nor kicked upstairs to heaven, he is to return to earth to live in a string of bodies of whores and sluts similar to those with whom he had betrayed his wife with.
The verdict fills Nick with delight as he considers it more as a reward than a punishment since he is about to live as a young person again and he's sure that he would be able to outsmart these dumb demons and live a long life of great pleasures.
