Short description

After being forced into serving in the Vahrean emperor’s navy, young hotshot commander Nessa Rhoh discovers that she had a murderous past life in which she controlled the vicious aliens now attacking the empire—and that she can still control their technology.

Extended description

Twenty-one-year-old Nessa's reckless life of speeder-racing comes to an abrupt end when she's suddenly and inexplicably captured by police from the empire of Vahrea and thrown into prison.

Months later, after she’s forced to serve in Emperor Tem Ra’s navy, Nessa encounters one of the dreaded alien ships that he fears. She boards it to find that it’s an automated gunship that responds to her commands. She instantly plots revenge against Ra, unaware that using her new ability has just revealed to a vicious alien race that she is the reincarnated queen who enslaved them in her murderous past life.

"Origin: Unknown" is an extraordinarily well-written, beautifully conceived work of sci-fi literature. Ms. Stachowiak has clearly done her homework- while never seeming to overtly ape other authors, her writing does reflect a passion for such luminaries as Lois McMaster Bujold, Robert Heinlen, Ray Bradbury, and others- and she has produced a tremendously enjoyable book. With an eye for both pace and nuance, "Origin:Unknown" has that ineffable, 'un-put-downable' quality shared by all great science fiction. This book comes highly recommended- both rip-roaring fun and thought-provoking exploration of the boundaries of the sci-fi genre, "Origin:Unknown: is well worth purchasing.
