Seething at the humiliation of her lover's deceit she goes first to Cairo, where she is implicated in a hideous murder and meets SIR WILLIAM SAINT THOMAS HOUGHTON, once a senior officer in the British Army. Sir William befriends her, and helps her escape the clutches of COLONEL ZADOC of the Cairo Police, but what starts out as a breathless run from the local cops turns into an epic journey of heart wrenching realizations, and personal discovery.

While hiding by day, and travelling the Nile at night, she meets Soteira, a Nubian woman whose wonderful jewels are thousands of years old, but could only be made using clever solar techniques.
