"War of the Witch" by Angel Haze is a standard fantasy novel that follows the adventures of a young common lad known as Astanyx. He returns home one day from a hunting expedition with his friends to find their village in ruins. When they find Astanyx's dying father, he provides some information on what happened and asks them to go and warn the king. So begins an adventure across the kingdoms of humans, dwarves and elves to try and build an army that could stand against the greatest threat in centuries.

The plot does make it sound like this book is an epic fantasy novel but I found that it was just a little bit too lacking in deeper substance to qualify it as such. Simply put it is fantasy light with limited political intrigue, character development and little sub-plotting. However, this simpler format has led to a fast paced novel that is full of action and gets straight to the point of a good versus evil battle.

One of the nice elements about the novel is that Angel Haze has created a varied and interesting world and back story. The history is revealed slowly as the novel progressed and I found it all to be quite enjoyable and would actually like to know more about it. In addition, the large and colourful mix of creatures that are used keeps the reader guessing about what Astanyx may encounter next during his adventures. There are the usual staples of fantasy literature such as orcs, dwarves and elves, yet we also get to encounter talking wolves, birdmen and the undead.

However, there are some issues beyond the rather barebones main plot line, the first of which is in regards to how people treat Astanyx. I found it completely ridiculous that a young commoner could just arrive at a castle, suddenly meet the King without any real checking and then be treated as a equal, or even a better to other more seasoned soldiers. I almost gave up altogether when Astanyx ends up going to a meeting between various heads of state where his opinions seemed to actually be listened to and given equal weight with others. I understand that the reader has to sometimes suspend disbelief, especially in regards to the fantasy genre but I think this novel pushes it a little bit too far.

The characters themselves were also severely under developed. Astanyx seems to act like a 16 year old common boy from start to finish which is why I find it even harder to understand why he gets VIP treatment as the story progresses. In addition, the other characters appear to be little more than cardboard cut outs. The young princess is stubborn and smart, the elven king is arrogant and the witch herself is just evil. That is the type of development we see in the novel and that is it.

Overall, I really wanted to like this story as it did have an interesting premise and I did find the back story to be quite enjoyable. However, when I read fantasy novels I prefer them to have a little bit more depth than what is on show here. Therefore, I was a little bit disappointed and suspect that the book is really only going to appeal to people who are after a quick light fantasy read to pass the time.

What a great tale! From the hero, Astanyx, who doesn't really think he's a hero, to Debonair, the witch with an attitude, this story is full of emotion, action and adventure! It did take me a little to get into the storyline and for it to grab a hold of me, but once I was sucked into the story there was no turning back.

I loved the fact that the story was a good mixture about the pending war, learning about the characters back stories and the relationships that built from the tragedy they have all faced. Sometimes a story will stick to more of the action in a book or the emotional story of the characters, but Angel Haze did a great job of melding the different facets into a well told story.

My favourite characters were Astanyx, Locke and Crypt. Astanyx is the unknown hero - they guy who just does the right thing, the guy with strong morals who ends up being the hero everyone has been waiting for. Locke and Crypt are a hilarious duo who bring comic relief to some otherwise serious situations.

Debonair reminds me of a bland of Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty fame) and Bellatrix Lestrange (from Harry Potter fame). Debonair is a perfect example of a witch being cocky about her magical abilities, yet being slightly delusional on how things will all turn out in the end.

All in all, this is an enjoyable read for those interested in fantasy or adventure. And I hope to revisit these characters again - so I'm hoping for a second book!

I would describe this book as epic fantasy lite. It is a YA quest story that is clean but violent. Exciting and fast, the action progresses quickly without a lot of complications. There is little political intrigue, which allows the story to focus on the good vs evil struggle.

The story isn't as in depth as most epic fantasies, but in this case, I think it works. The story is more accessible to YA readers who might be scared off by the idea of a long and complicated story. For a fantasy story, the names are easy to read and the history of the world is easily understood.

There is no romance, but there are a few hints that one might develop in future books.

Overall, this is a great story for either readers who are new to fantasy quest stories, or are looking for a lighter version of the epic fantasies they are used to.

The synopsis pretty much tells you everything you need to know plot-wise, so I don’t think I need to go on and talk about what happens in the story.

Let’s start at the beginning. From the very first page I was thrown right into the world of Talimura. Into the battle. There were no slow long intros, there were no info dumps – nothing of the sort that would piss me off. Everything was fast paced, straight forward and straight to the point, which is exactly what I’m looking for in a book. The author didn’t treat me – the reader – as if I’m stupid. There were no excessive descriptions or anything like that because everything was vivid enough without it. I was able to picture everything in my head perfectly without having to read pages and pages of descriptions on how gruesome the deaths are in the battle – or worse, how perfectly beautiful Luccia is, or how absolutely hot Astanyx is. In fact, I don’t think it was ever mentioned, Astanyxs’s looks I mean.

All of the characters were intelligent. Even if it was not said, you could clearly tell that they are not stupid – they’re just in denial. It was so refreshing to read when everyone had at least a little bit of common sense and logic. There were no clichés, and everything that needed to be said was said. You know when you read a book and, let’s say there is a meeting, and no one is doing anything about the oncoming battle, you’d think “Why the fuck is no one saying anything? They’re wasting time! Why isn’t anyone doing anything about it?!” well in this book everything was done right. Astanyx – no matter what kind of peasant he is – he always stood up to the kings and people in charge of him in order to do what needs to be done.

The story is written in third person. Even though the majority of the story you followed Astanyx, you also get to follow the plan of Debonair (WIN!). Debonair is the villain in the story and... my, my, reading from the villains POV (sort of) was like chocolate to me. I mean you never get to read form the villains POV. Never. It makes me want to go all fangirl and squeal in glee because that’s how much I liked it.

To be honest, books with witches don’t really interest me all that much – they always sound boring, but in this story everything seemed right. There was a witch, demons, dragons, goblins, dwarfs, humans and elves! How can anybody not like elves? As well as birdmen (aka SkyWarriors), bears, wolfs, orcs, Dragon Knights, hellfangs, ogres, gnomes, hellhounds and the undead. Oh wow, when I listed them now, it seems like a lot, but it didn’t feel like it when I was reading the book.

The ending was something I expected, but didn’t want to happen. I mean it was a win and a loss at the same time. Oh! Oh! And the fact that there were hints of romance in the book between Astanyx and Luccia but it didn’t actually happen until the end was – WIN!!!

And look at that stunning cover!

Major thanks to the author for letting me review the book.

When sixteen-year-old Astanyx and his friends return home from a hunting expedition, they horrified to discover their entire village in ruin. Astanyx's dying father gives them a clue as to what befell their families and friends and begs the boys to take a message to the king. Now, it is up to Astanyx to convince the king of the danger which is about to unleash a terrible power upon the land.

The strongest thing about Legacies of Talimura is its plotting. The book moves swiftly, taking the reader from one exciting episode to the next. There is some 'info-dumping' from time to time; however, the pace is not bogged down by the back story.

For the most part, the book is well-written; however, there are some things keeping it from being a truly great novel. One is the dialogue. There are many places that suffer from the "Deerslayer Syndrome" - a condition in which characters speak slang in one paragraph and then switch to high-flown speech in another.

Another problem is way the sixteen-year-old, peasant Astanyx is treated by his adult companions. Throughout the book, Astanyx's ideas are given equal consideration to those of the high-ranking officers in the army. He's also left alone with the king's daughter a number of times, sent on an extremely important mission that should have been undertaken by a seasoned soldier, and allowed into a meeting among heads of state. I would have liked to read an explanation of why this common-born teenager was given so much respect.

Finally, there were some problems with naming. Astanyx's god, for example, was named 'Shiva'. However, because this god was not the famous Hindu deity, it was jarring to see her name used. The witch's name, Debonair, was also a strange choice since the witch in the book was anything but suave and carefree.

I wanted to like this book more than I did, but I think that with a little more experience, the author's work will improve.

I have read many Fantasy stories. Epics really, like ones written by George R. R. Martin, Terry Goodkind and N.K. Jemisin. I love Fantasy and always will but sometimes the long story lines can become complex and heavy. Politics, revenge, long chapters based on secondary characters and subtle back stories can distract from the main idea of the story. Good versus evil.
In Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch, Angel Haze has given her audience a chance to focus on good versus evil and the heroes that are born from the fight.

Here is the book Summary: Debonair, a witch from the Unspoken Lands, has meddled in the forbidden practice of magic and created an army of nightmarish proportions. When sixteen-year-old Astanyx and his two best friends return from a hunting trip to find their small town of Polca reduced to smoke and ash, they find themselves thrust into a battle for which they haven’t been trained.

With the help of his comrades, including an esteemed warrior, one of the last great wizards and a princess they’ve sworn to protect, Astanyx must fight to unite the kingdoms of the humans, dwarves and elves. He must ask forbidden questions that no one wants to answer, questions about Talimura’s dark history. As Debonair’s brutal warriors lay siege to the kingdoms, Astanyx is driven to pursue a fateful quest for a blade powerful enough to defeat the malevolent witch before she destroys the three kingdoms and unleashes an unspeakable ancient evil.

There are many reasons I enjoyed this book so much. The characters were fantastic from the endearing Astanyx to the evil Debonair. Every character was well thought out with entertaining personalities and motives of their own. The World-building aspects were very good and surprising for a new author. The plot was not so cumbersome as to overwhelm the reader. I truly enjoyed losing myself in the story. Orcs, Dragons, Elves, Dwarves, Birdmen and more, this story has so much Win!

Writing Fantasy is not for the faint of heart. As a first time Fantasy writer, Angel Haze is a strong new voice and a refreshing addition to the genre!

Title: Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch
Author: Angel Haze & Slade Sewell
Genre: Fantasy
Format: Ebook
Publisher: Angel Haze

Sixteen year old Astanyx and his two best friends return from a hunting trip to find their small village of Polca ravaged by brutal killers that left no one alive. With nothing left the boys set off to warn the King. They do not realize that they are going to be tested in ways they never thought possible and be thrust into a battle that only could be made up. Except it isn’t made up. It’s real.
Debonair, a powerful witch from the Unspoken Lands is on a secret quest and has put together an army of made up of the most violent and blood thirsty killers she could find. With her army she is terrorizing everyone in her path and creating chaos.
Astanyx and his friends (old and new) must find a way to unite the kingdoms and defeat the witch. To do this he must venture farther than he ever thought, seek answers to forbidden questions and find the only weapon powerful enough to save the kingdoms from Debonair’s desire to unleash an ancient evil.

Buckle your seatbelts…
You are about to go for a ride…
This book picks you up and sweeps you along until the every last page is read leaving you completely satisfied and even a little winded. That’s right, winded. Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch is packed full of twists and turns and frankly it’s the best book I have read in a long time.
So what’s it about?
To me, it’s about worlds from long ago when things weren’t as simple as they are now but they were so much more magical. It’s where legend meets history and all creatures come together to create a fantastic world. The descriptions of these places, these lands and villages are so crystal clear in my head it’s as if they really did once exist and they are merely waiting to be discovered again.
I am an avid reader and this is the first tale that I have come across like this. I almost don’t want to make the comparison (even though it isn’t really a comparison) but I can’t help but say what’s on my mind (Hey, you asked). I will admit –and NO I am not kidding, and yes, you may pretend to not know me if you like – I have never read the Harry Potter series, nor have I watched any of the movies…but I do have an idea in my head of what it would be like and this book is what I imagine. Not necessarily the story line (there is no sorcerer named Harry with some friends) but the world and the creatures that live in it. There are elves and dwarfs, gnomes and talking wolves…there are even some dragons.
Astanyx is a great character, my favorite of the story. I love how he is the main character but the story isn’t really about him. It’s about his quest and his journey. He’s a warrior with no training…(okay a little training, but mostly by experience) and his sense of self and right and wrong is unshakable. In the beginning of the story he is a boy, unsure of himself and a little awkward. But he doesn’t stay that way for long. He rises up in the most difficult and impossible situations and emerges from the story as a hero and a leader.
As I said, to me the main character of the story was Astanyx but he was far from the only character to capture my attention. Barrett- a strong, capable warrior who I think kind of earned the mentor role to Astanyx was also a favorite. Then there was Luccia, the princess. But she wasn’t like any other princesses in the stories I have read. She has a strong, level head on her shoulder and is capable with a sword. She was always realistic about the situations they faced but still managed to hold on to the hope in her heart. She was a warm ray of sunshine in the middle of a storm.
The villain of the story is vile and power seeking, arrogant and rude. She is also very powerful which makes any victory over her a triumph.
The plot in this book is executed so well and without any hiccups. There is so much depth to the story and so many things happening but I was never once lost or bored. The story moved along continuously and kept me interested and guessing. The characters came up against many challenges and traveled to many places. I would even daresay that sometimes I was reminded of Indiana Jones.  P.S. I really LIKED Indiana Jones.
Which brings me to another point, this book would make an awesome movie. I could see it play out in my head so clearly as I read and the action and battle scenes would be fabulous to watch with some popcorn. And the dragons…they were awesome.
There was even some romance in the book, but it was something in the background, a nice compliment to the evolving story. It was just enough to make me smile. The ending was fantastic, if a little shocking. I do hope that there will be a sequel because I would love to have more of these characters and this world.
The writing was clear, the description was good and the plot was easy to follow even though it had a lot to offer. In all, this book was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who loves to read and go on adventures. I would even go as far to say that this is probably the best Indie book I have ever read. I frankly, don’t know why you are still reading this review, you should go buy the book and start reading.
So there you have it. My Opinion.

I was amazed by the amount of enthusiasm contained in this book. The whole thing was like LOTR revisited, only with more quirkiness, mystic characters, charming young warriors and twisted storyline. The book didn’t get me instantly hook for the first few pages until the first battle and the loss of a young warrior, a friend of Astanxy, in that battle. Almost immediately I sensed something sinister behind his death thus provoked my eagerness to find out more; it’s where the author had succeeded in grabbing my attention.

This was a thrilling Lord of the Rings meets Eragon.
I am going to start out by telling you how awesome this book is. I loved reading it and it always kept me trying to guess what was going to happen next.
This book was written in third person point of view, so you don't really get inside the heads of the characters, which I really would have enjoyed. (That's probably because I read so many first person point of view books insert smiley face here.) But as I continued reading the book, it would have been difficult to write it from a first person point of view since there are many characters that the author follows.
On to the characters. Like I said before, there are a lot of characters in this book. If you do not pay close attention and keep every character (and I mean every one) in your head, it can get a little confusing. It's not that hard to figure out characters if you have forgotten them, but it is a little confusing when they show up and you don't remember who they are. Lastly, the main characters were easy to fall in love with (but maybe that's just my weakness I have for books.)
If you like thrilling books, read Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch. The book almost immediately gives you questions and as soon as you get your questions answered, you get another round of questions. That pattern continues all throughout the book which really keeps it interesting. I can not think of a single slow part in this book. The action started with in the first chapter and continued all the way through to the very end.
Angel Haze did a wonderful job of writing this book and I can't wait to see what happens to Astanyx, Luccia, Barret, and Zaygos along with all the other characters in Angel's next books coming out next year.

Ok, I have to say right off the top, I can't go into a lot of detail with this book as I would divulge way to much of this incredible book, and if there is one thing I hate is spoilers. It ruins it for the next person and leaves nothing to the imagination, and for this fantastic book you need your imagination.

Angels attention to detail is incredible, by far some of the most detailed writing I love to read, her descriptions of the ongoing battle made me feel like I was right there, feeling the fear, defeat, unspeakable ancient evil and the victories as they are won. I could almost imagine the creatures she has created from the Orc's, hallfangs, gnomes, dwarves and the Dragons, love the Dragons, and the one woman that is creating all this havoc a Witch, Debonair, who has created an army of not only the Orc's, and many others but has also raised the dead to help build her army and make it indestructible.....nasty eh!!

Astanyx and his two best friends have had their whole village and family destroyed by Debonair and her army of monsters, as his fathers last dying wish, they set out to Windhan to warn King Azores, there he pledges to stay and fight for him, there he meets the Princess Luccia, now the Princess is not your average Princess, nope she can fight with the best of soldiers, against her fathers wishes, and she will not go down without a fight and fight she will.

I love the characters Angel has created, some of whom have their own story to tell, Crypt's story is nothing short of amazing, and Barrett who has my heart, Soaren, Ramza, Kapella, Elric, Locke to name a few more of the characters, so in saying this I will finish as I really don't want to ruin the story for anyone, it is a great story told and you really have to read it and experience it for yourself.

I want to thank Angel for once again allowing me to read her wonderful book, I recommend this book to all, it is a great book and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

I received this book from the author for review, thank you Angel. As the second book I've read by her I have to say I'm a big fan of her writing, she can really explain the different situations her characters find themselves in without making it boring, and she makes you feel like your in the story living the adventures the characters are.
I loved the different characters and how they interact, from Astanyx who is brave and noble to Kane who has a hidden secret (which I suspected^^ yay for me) the Princess Luccia who is not your typical damsel in distress but is able to hold herself in a fight or the evil witch Debonair who is a wicked villain with a hidden purpose.
Another thing I enjoyed was the diffrent races that fight in the war and my heart lept everytime someone mentioned the Dragons (I love those creatures) who also play an important role in the story along with the Dragon Knights.
Other secondary characters such as Soaren, Ramza, Kapella, Elric, Crypt (who's story is amazing), Locke and many more were really interesting and I want to know more about them. But my heart goes to Barret and what happened to him. And Kasha, I loved her character although she reminded me of a legenday character named Cassandra.
Overall I loved this book and I give it 5 stars. I hope there is a sequel to follow and perhaps a prequel explaining all about the past :)
Again thank you Angel.
See you all soon.
