Drawn from Hawley Roddick's Open Salon blog, these true stories are about happy memories of some of the famous people who touched her life. She writes about exchanging letters with Boris Pasternak (just before he died); the author of Dr. Zhivago and she wrote what a friend of Hawley described as "Valentines."

In New York, Hawley dated James Ivory before he met Ismail Merchant and the two of them founded Merchant-Ivory Productions, which launched Jim's film directing career. Hawley worked for Helen Gurley Brown at Cosmopolitan and wrote the magazine's Dieter's Notebook column. Through Helen she met David Brown and had the privilege not only of having dinner with him on Martha's Vineyard during the troubled filming of Jaws but also of attending a pre-release private screening of the film, where she embarrassed herself by screaming when the shark first appeared.

And finally she settled in New York, where she had a long, successful career and many friends.
