Willowtree is filled with local Arizona color and the slow pace of retired life, except when it gets exciting. Though not a golfer, I wanted to drop in on the Willowtree Golf Club and have a lemonade with Bruce and his cronies to see if he was getting involved in any new murders or mysteries.
Within a few pages I felt I knew Bruce and his Apache friend Ben. By the end I was hoping his dog would stay healthy and wondered if he would stumble over any more dead bodies and if his wife will become a good golfer and maybe beat him. I loved the clever little surprises in the humor.A perfect cozy for reading in an RV or when you can’t get out on the course. A hole in one for Mike Bove and his first book.

I enjoyed this short book, although it took a little time to get going, and it didn't help that golf bores me to tears. Mike's obvious passion for the game came through the story. Nice quick whodunit!

Willowtree is a murder mystery, and Mike Bove's first book. Hopefully, it will be the first in a series featuring author Mike Bove's alter ego Bruce DelReno, both retired postal workers and ardent golfers.
Bruce, as a character, seems like a mix of Larry David and Lew Archer. He just keeps pushing on, especially when not wanted, and unwinds the sins of the past that keep interfering with the present.
Bruce surrounds himself with an interesting group of supporting players that will allow author Mike Bove to make Willowtree the Cabot Cove of Arizona.

Just a good old fashioned murder mystery by Mike Bove. Bruce Delreno is a retired postman and avid golfer. Just another retiree in the desert of Arizona who happens upon a murder and becomes more involved than the local detectives. Bove provides a good read without all of the hype. If you are looking for action, then look somewhere else as Delreno and his buddies are retired and working on their own time. Good book to kick back with on the weekend.

This is the first volume in what I hope will be one of many involving the characters of Willowtree. The writing has a good flow to it, the characters are believable and even better, likeable. The main character, a wannabe detective, or else just someone who is bored and wants some excitement (lol), is Bruce DelReno. A lot of the book is about golf, or I should say involves golf. Not being a golf lover myself I thought I wouldn't really take to this book but I was in for a pleasant surprise. Mr. Bove made it very easy to understand which shows the makings of a truly good author. He draws the reader into not onlt the mystery but the characters and their lives. A great read indeed!

This is an okay murder mystery. As with other reviewers, it was a little slow to start, and far too much golf in the beginning. But, once it got going it was worth perservering.

Like a previous reviewer, as a non-golfer, I had a bit of problem getting into this book but once I did, I found it quite entertaining. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

I had a hard time getting into the book at first, probably because I'm not a golfer and that is what most of the first bits references are based on. After getting into the actual mystery though, I really enjoyed this book. Mike's writing style is unique, almost as if the main character is setting with you telling you everything over lemonade so some of his random thoughts pop up in with everything. The characters are relate-able, and although I had it figured out who did it pretty early in the novel, the reasons and details why came as a surprise. Very nice entry into the authors world.

This was an enjoyable read. Mike Bove's first book and the story behind the story is almost as good as the book itself. I'll let you learn the details about Mike on your own, I'm here to review Willowtree.
Set in a small Arizona town, Bruce stumbles upon some bones. I know, you're thinking, dead person from long ago....nope, dead animal bones. It's AFTER he finds the bones that the real mystery starts. Bruce is retired and his wife is working a lot of hours so he keeps himself busy and his mind sharp by helping the police, sort of....when he's not playing golf or giving gratis golf lessons to his friends.
It's an interesting cast of characters and the story is told by Bruce. It reads just like a narrative conversation you would imagine having over a cup of coffee, if Bruce was telling you the story in person. I don't think you need to know a lot about golf to read this but if you know anything about golf, you will find this book quite intersting and "get" some of the underlying humor. I can't play golf worth a lick but I still "got" it.
It kept my attention. It's suitable for all adults and young readers also. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the next Bruce DelReno adventure.
