A first-time novelist, Vasant Davé has written 'Trade winds to Meluhha' which is set in the Bronze Age. It narrates a young man’s adventure in Mesopotamia and Indus Valley Civilizations. In this e-booklet he shares his experience of writing it. Briefly discussing the archaeological evidence of trade between the two ancient cultures and Thor Heyerdahl's validation of it, the author assumes certain matters to inject thrill and suspense in the narrative. Leading authorities on Mesopotamia and Indus Valley struck his hypothesis down. However, a serious reader of historical novels recognizes how little the Fiction has digressed from the Fact compared to several fantasies hanging from the 'Indus Valley Civilization' peg. Predicament regarding place names affected by cultural changes over three millenniums, and how some characters evolved from archaeological artifacts are discussed.
