Extended description

"This review is more of an author review than a specific review of the authors work. I really wanted to get a feel for how Trista wrote before delving into her new novel Nails Jane.

The two stories I looked at: The Accidental Immortal and The Silent Princess were obviously written with great care and passion. There is no doubt in my mind that Trista is an accomplished writer in her ablity to pull the reader right where she wants them and make them see what she wants them to see. The writing is vibrant, which for a dark fantasy/horror author is integral to being able to capture and keep a readers attention so they do not want to put that book down. I would go so far as to say that if she really wanted to, Trista could easily enter the horror marketplace of giving her readers that cold shiver at the end of the story that makes them look over their shoulder.

The Accidental Immortal is about a woman who through time has evaded death. It gets just slightly campy at one point where she c.. (Read more)

After seeing all the good reviews, I was hoping for something a little better. This short story has some good ideas, including its central premise, but the actual storytelling seemed bland, most of it being an exchange of dialogue. The writing certainly doesn't engage the senses, there's no imagery, no tension, no atmosphere. I mean, when Maddie's recollections start, for example, she just states "I started off as a cave dweller." Why not have her remembering the hunger, the stress, the cold damp interior of the cave, the indignity of having to eat insects and such, before she comes out with this statement? Something to colour her words and add a bit of substance and character.

Everything about this story moved me. IF ever you had any ill regard for death, this story will give you a new perspective on the subject.

Interesting story. Having read author's other shorts, I like the themes going on here. Dark fantasy stuff.

What would it be like to live forever? Could you do it? Could you find yourself wrapped up in a world of neverending life, watching those around you die? Nevermind the amazing things you could do with all your time, what about how monotonous it would become? What if Death were truly a person who forgot about you? What would you think of him then? This story answers the bulk of those questions and more. I suggest it as a download for those interested in the subject of death, dying, and the human response.

A woman with a pained existence that stretches over the timespan of thousands of years? She pulled this off. And Death was anything but a responsible party.

I felt sorry for the main character. I could feel her pain. A very emotional piece of work here.

From cave woman to Queen, the main character in this book explains every psychological twist and turn her neverending life takes her. I was intrigued from the beginning and the story flowed beautifully. Such an awesome concept!

A fabulous read! I highly recommend it if you enjoy sparse narrative. I truly felt maddie's struggle with immortal life - how she felt abandoned. Very inspiring. I want to read more by this author!

Very captivating, from beginning to end. A beautiful little story that reminds us all how important a role Death plays in the circle of life. It tells us that we should be grateful that Death has not forgotten our names, because life may be much more miserable in his absence.

From a writing perspective, the literary flow is great. It is smooth from start to finish, not pausing for little descriptive details. It has an openness to it that allows the reader to focus on the main character's story. Every emotion was played upon within those 18 pages.

Very well done, a great story that will keep me up at night reflecting life.
