What happens when a straight Alpha male shifter's mate turns out to be another male? Read NOT MY WOLF* and find out!
NOT MY WOLF was a recent TGIF surprise from my Secret Book Claus (although I suspect she may have only paid attention to the enticing cover). My first time reading anything by Eden Cole, it was a fun, satisfying read and I recommend it for those in the mood for a quick, sexy story about M/M shifters.
Overall, it was well-written (and edited, thank you!) and had a fully-developed storyline given its short length (est. 50pgs). The interesting and sympathetic secondary characters added to its appeal (of course, generating curiosity as to subsequent stories). I did have a lingering question while reading this but it wasn't directly related to this story and certainly didn't detract from it in any way.
NOT MY WOLF may contain some standard tropes (e.g., instant recognition of the other's mate, one's resistance to such fated mating, outside events bringing things to a head). But it also had the unusual twist (for me, at least) of a shifter whose mate turns out to be quite different from what he had been envisioning. *lol* Even better, the Alpha gets out-Alpha'd by his mate! I also liked that Corey didn't just shrug and with a "well, he's my mate", immediately turn GFY. Instead, he struggled to reconcile his preconceived notions with the reality (but not for too long; it's a novelette, after all).
Lastly, NOT MY WOLF deviated from most wolf shifter stories by introducing a flavor of mythology. Corey's Rocky Mountains pack is composed (mostly) of fenrir shifters, distinguishable from other "regular" wolf shifters because they are descendents of Fenrir, a Norse god. Although this difference is addressed only superficially in this book, I couldn't help but wonder if later books in the series would explore it further.

In a word, wow! This story was fast-paced, thrilling and erotic as hell. I seriously need a drink of water.
