About David M. Delo

I started writing after I earned my Master’s Degree at NYU in 1984. I was 46 years old. After a decade of writing history articles for popular and scholarly magazines, the University of Utah Press published my first non-fiction book about the military post traders of America: PEDDLERS AND POST TRADERS: THE ARMY SUTLER ON THE FRONTIER(1992). It received 5-star ratings from historians.
Publishers, however, showed no interest in my historical fiction, so I started my own publishing company, Kingfisher Books, through which I published trade paperbacks about individuals and events that helped shape the character of the modern West: THE YELLOWSTONE, FOREVER!(1998), the true story of the five men who helped to create our first national park; HEARTBREAK AND HEAVEN, a frontier-period historical,; and a trade paperback version of my Peddlers book.
Recently (2011)I completed a historical biography of America’s highest-paid and most controversial artist of the 1800s, Albert Bierstadt. I worked from 1,000 pages of notes and I followed Bierstadt’s footsteps through Europe for 30 days.
OTHER: In 2000, I started an action-mystery series based on my years as a counter intelligence agent in the 1960s. They are light, fast-paced, humorous, and feature two well-etched characters who get involved in national issues like corporate espionage, land use issues, designer drugs, child pornography, and so forth.

PAST CAREERS:I have been a counter-intelligence agent attached to NATO in the 1960s, a divisional V.P. for Levi Strauss & Co., and owner/manager of a guest ranch in the Rockies. For the past 20 years I have been an author and an artist.
