A young San Antonio surgeon – Richard Reiser – on vacation in Dallas goes to review a post-mortem body. His surgical knowledge finds inconsistencies that cast suspicion on the identity of the victim. The subsequent investigation is instantly bedeviled with tragedy. The investigating police officer and the insurance investigator wind up dead within a few days.
The FBI approaches the surgeon, providing protection, because they suspect he may be next in line for these sudden unexplained deaths. The surgeon is whisked away to a secret location.
But, what is this all about, the surgeon ponders.
The answers come following a high speed car chase and a daredevil acrobatic action on top a speeding train by the suspect and an elite, specially trained FBI anti-terrorism team. The FBI reveals that they are hot on the heels of an Al-Qaeda sleeper who is planning a spectacular event on the 3rd anniversary of September 11th.
And the sting in the tail of this scorpion is – The Sleeper has a master’s degree in Nuclear Physics from Stanford University.
Is the event going to be a nuclear bomb explosion? The FBI believes so. They are on the hunt. Meanwhile, the surgeon decides to stick his amateur head into the mix.
