It is so refreshing to read vampire fiction with a teenaged narrator that actually sounds like a teenager, rather than the wise-beyond-their-years (or at least trying to be) broody teens from vampire universes we've all grown accustomed to. And Ms. Pauley knows how to hook a reader in with just enough intrigue, danger, and humor that young and old adults will enjoy. The only criticism I have is that there are a couple of typos. Love this series.

I love the prelude. I suspect Astrid is a Black Talon, too, but who knows? We just have to wait for the book. Can't wait to know what happens next! I am recommending this series to everyone who is asking me about which book I would recommend. I love the series and I am sure I will love the 3rd book because I already love the prelude.

Kimberly Pauley has managed to yet again strike gold with her new short story "Sucks to be Moi (Prelude)". Evil bad guys who not only make you think "What's this guys problem?" but also mildly understand his/her problem (Which is VERY hard to do), exciting main characters with deep development (in the previous books) and highly entertaining side charactares. after her success using her technique in "Still sucks to be me", Pauley has once again added a light touch of mistery with the perfect ammount of humour mixed in. BUT What I truly enjoyed about this first little iddy-bit of volume three of the "Sucks to be Me" chronicles is that she used a real-life person in her storie (a fan who won a contest (ENVY!!!!)) but actually MADE IT WORK. well done pauley, 9.5/10

Kimberly Pauley has another hit on her hands! She has everything needed for the 3rd Mina Hamilton (oops, Smith) book. Exotic locale, new friend, bad nemesis (those evil Black Talons!), and her sweet George & family. We're already hanging on the edge after only 11 pages! I think of her books as crossovers as I can't remember being a YA except in my heart. If you just love the vamp genre you'll love these books! Such a fresh approach to teen vampire angst!
Spread the word my friends so we can get the complete story. Send Kimberly those emails!!!
The cover is awesome, so tres chic!!! Really sets the tone for the story!

I give this 5 stars. I seriously love the way of you getting into her head as if you're actually Mina. I love how the suspense is already in the beginning! I seriously can't wait to read more of it. You're doing an amazing job here!

I love this story...really I do. I think what I like most is that although she is a vampire and what not, she talks like any other normal girl. I like how you don't use the fact that she's a vampire to determine how she acts or speaks. The fact that she talks normally makes the story a little more realistic. Great job!
