Brains before Beauty, that's Rachel Newberry's motto, especially when her quiet, orderly life is interrupted by international rock star, Jaydon Hawke. And true to her word, brains take center stage when she discovers Hawke has a lot more on his mind than beautiful music. Targeted by a madman, Rachel puts her trust in Hawke, a move that may cost both their lives.

An interesting concept, but a little unrealistic. SEALS I don't think do that kind of undercover work and the ladies just weren't believeable. The writing was okay, but it just didn't do it for me

I read the book just now (sometimes it takes time to read after I get a book).
I didn't have finished it yet and I bought the other books of this series.
'nough said. :D

I found the plausibility of the story a little far-fetched and at times I had to reread sections to understand who was talking. Having said that, I was still "hot and heavy" while reading it, my heart-beat pounding just that little bit harder and desperate to find out where it was all going to lead. I loved the chemistry between them all. I was completely involved in the characters, the rest of my life in suspension, and I felt like I was in that lovesick stage of a relationship! Looking forward to reading the 2nd instalment.

Okay so this was a tad painful. The story plot had very little continuity and the timelines made no sense. Unless they were building some seriously high-end pre-fab houses there was no way this house was as far along as implied. Second her apparent naivete at her former lover's deception was unbelievable.I will not even address the Navy SEAL connection, I think that has been addressed by other reviewers. The unveiling of the two bad guys, Monica and Diego made no sense. Really what are the odds she was stalking both of them? The jilted wife was also a terrorist courier! And Diego the international terrorist to personally try to kill Rachel? Oh and she was also a photographer/oil-applicator for photo shoots. Then that the day after getting shot all Rachel can think of is going to the spa? Okay you get the picture it had many moments of suspended belief but it was still entertaining mostly due to Cameron and Max's chemistry. Rachel and Hawke not so much

It has a good pace, it's implausible but yet enjoyable, funny and sexy. When you come to the end you'll find yourself in a very good mood. For that, it gets 4* from me.

While the Navy Seal bit was unrealistic... the basic plot was good, the characters belivable and the story fun. A good story, even if at times you're thinking, "That would never happen." The writer makes your forget about it and enjoy the ride.

If you are not particularly worried about the little details and are just looking for a sweet and sexy story then this is for you. I tend to be an easy going reader and do not worry too much about how realistic the plot lines are. This means I am usually happily reading while others are raising the....flag. Unfortunately for the author I am a Navy SPECWAR wife. Which means I am more than well versed on what a Navy SEAL is and does, and while I have read many books about Navy SEALS that have given me a little giggle when they get it wrong, I am usually pretty understanding. I even took GI Jane with a grain of salt! This time however I am sorry, I hate to say this, but the storyline is really really far fetched. This is compounded by the gazillion cliches in the dialogue and romance following the lines of "It was a dark and stormy night"
Having said all that, I would not warn anyone away from the book. As I said it is still a sweet little romance as long as you do not get caught up in the details, and worth the read. Please also be aware that my review might be affected by the fact that I have more knowledge than the average reviewer about the community.

Mia Dymond did a great job with this book! This was a very enjoyable read. The characters were well developed and the storyline & plot was good as well. I also enjoyed the little suspense provided in the story, the romance, and the humor, especially the banters between secondary characters Max & Cameron! Can't wait to read about them in Outspoken Angel. Overall, I highly recommend this if you are looking for a light & fun read!

Review by: Lone Star BookWorks on Nov. 08, 2011 :
Although this book has a few things going for it (decent dialogue except during the 'love' scenes, technically well-written, adverbs used sparingly, and vivid descriptions of the setting), it wasn't great. The plot was contrived and unbelievable, the characters were more like caricatures, the lead male's name kept changing from Hawk to Hawke (and his love interest called him by his surname - what?), the physical descriptions of the characters were often cliche, and there were small details that showed a lack of thought and/or research.

Writing erotica does not give you a license to write poor fiction! While the plot may not be the main point of an erotica novel, whatever plot is inserted into the tale should be at least somewhat plausible. A Navy Seal posing as a rock star is the least of the problems with the plot of this book.

That said, it wasn't the worst book I've ever spent time reading. I wouldn't recommend it or the author, though. There are better books - including free erotica - out there.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit although I certainly had to suspend reality to enjoy it. There are a lot of plot lines that simply could not happen in real life but then, this IS a fiction book after all. The book was a page turner and, if I didn't think too hard about how silly certain scenarios were, I enjoyed it very much.

I thought this book was an excellent read!!!! The characters were awsome and the dialogue was great. I didn't put it down, I read it all at one time. That said, I just feel the need to respond to the arguments previously posted. Somehow I just don't think a review is the place to argue with another reviewer. Please be considerate to the author. If you review the same book twice (and you give her 2 stars each time) you are lowering her rating. This is unfair. You did not download the book twice. And yes, constructive criticism is perfectly acceptable, but unless you can prove her inadequacies without a doubt I don't know that you have an argument. And really, I don't know that I want to waste my time. Who cares how long it took for what? Personally, I was too busy wrapped up in what else was going on. If I were the author, I would put a positive spin on this - too bad she didn't charge for the book. You probably increased her sales by the millions. Controversy sells.

Wow!! Did the former reviewer read the same book I did? I found the story to be very enjoyable and believable. The author proved a strong point: money talks in reality and romance novels! A super read that provided just the escape I needed. Can't wait for the next book!!!

Review by: Sonya Smith on Sep. 15, 2011 :
The readers that reviewed this I don't think actually read the book. It wasn't totally horrible. Grammatically, it was well written. I actually liked most of the dialogue, particularly between Cameron and Max. For the most part, the characters were very likable. It had potential to be a really good book. Now for the bad parts. The plot was weak at best. Totally unbelievable for the most part. The lead female character is an architect and the writer expects us to believe that she's apparently a magician. She manages to draw up plans for a house in a ritzy subdivision AND get permits for the entire building process in less than a day, breaks ground on the same day the blueprints and permits are done, the entire frame is built and burned down the next day, within a week the house is almost finished and then vandalized, then within days, it's rebuilt and the lead male character is living there??? I realize you can have a lot of leeway with fiction, but really?? There are no details at all about the bad guy, you just are told that he's after her. But why? There is no real reason for him to want to kill her. Him showing up at the end was kind of silly, if he's the head honcho, wouldn't he have people to do that kind of dirty work for him? With no introduction at all through the entire book, except for a brief mention here and there, he shows up with no back up, no henchmen, nothing, and attempts to take care of Rachel himself. And what was the deal with the firemen? Charity calenders usually hire a professional to take the pictures, not an architect and an interior designer. If the story had some continuity, and a bit of realism, it would be a whole lot better.
