Unusual stories, unusually told probably sums up this quintet. 'The Ditch' has an unexpected ending, 'Flight' tells the story of a man who's sure his plane's going to be hijacked, and 'Thumb' is a really weird, scary story. Add in a couple of others and what you've got is definitely not a comfortable read, but it'll make you think. It's well worth the effort.

This little book contains five different stories, four of which have death, or the proximity of death, as a theme. The fifth doesn't, instead focusing on the consequences of human susceptibility to temptation.
Although each is in its own way bizarre, to a greater or lesser degree they are all capable of drawing a reader in to the point where he might even feel that he's actually there, watching the action – it doesn't take too great a stretch of the imagination to get there. Because, though, there is that theme of death, what the reader might see might not be the prettiest of pictures particularly when the transition from life to death is narrated by a clearly confused victim.
Approached with an open mind, these are all rewarding stories.
