Reading Texas Roads was an absolutely delicious experience for me on so many fronts. I grew up in Texas, am a Christian, and had a difficult time with a dysfunctional mother. I, too, have looked for home and acceptance throughout my life. I have found it with Christ and scripture, my husband, and my true Christian friends.
Despite some difficulties there, I still have wonderful memories of the Texas prairies and the people there. It was fun to "visit" again.

When I was given the chance to read the debut novel, TEXAS ROADS, I was very excited and not disappointed in the least at the quality of the story.
The story is a sweet romance, a searching heart and a moving story of God’s love all rolled up into one.
The story grows and develops throughout the story, bringing the reader in. It is a simple story about finding home. There were moments of faith messages, but it didn’t feel preachy and flowed naturally with the story.
I thought the characters were well portrayed and showed a great deal of heart. By far my favorite character was Mama Beth, but the growing that Dani (the heroine) and Steve (the hero) did were gradual, but felt real. I wasn’t rushed in understanding their motivations and growth.
There was depth to the book with different angles that enhanced the main plot. The setting became like a second character, but it wasn’t without its quirks.
This is an excellent debut novel and after the sneak peek in the back of this book, I am looking forward to reading the second book.
All in all I really enjoyed this book, it has a homey feel to it, the kind of book to snuggle up with and get lost within its pages.

Book Review: Texas Roads by Cathy Bryant
Every woman wants someplace to call home. It almost doesn’t matter where it is, or how big it is, it’s hers. She will clean it and decorate it as she can, but it’s hers. We women are made that way – our home is our security, our safety. A place where we belong. A place where we can create our own refuge, at least under normal circumstances. It is why little girls play house. They have this innate sense of belonging and being safe in their “house.”
This is the premise for Texas Roads. The heroine, Dani, has longed for a home to feel secure, to belong. But she’s never had that. Texas Roads will lead her to that home, and although it’s not what she first looked for or expected, she recognizes it when she arrives.
Texas Roads is a delightful book to read. Mrs. Bryant has an eloquent way of expressing her heart that is evident throughout the book. You will fall in love with Miller’s Creek and wish that you could move there. All the characters, even the “old geezers,” will find a place on your list of favorite characters.
The spiritual lesson found within this book is one that will bring peace to those hearts that may still be looking for a place to belong – a home. And for those who have found that home – it is a beautiful reminder.
This book is available for purchase in print and e-book format at several online retailers. Mrs. Bryant has also established a website for Texas Roads that includes Mama Beth’s recipes, Dani’s money-saving tips and a Bible Study corresponding to the spiritual themes of the story. http://TexasRoadsbyCathyBryant.blogspot.com.
Enjoy your time in Miller’s Creek!!

Review of Texas Roads, book one of the Miller’s Creek Series by Cathy Bryant
c. 2010
Cathy Bryant’s debut novel, Texas Roads, is a journey on many levels. Danielle Davis searches for family ties and in the process, learns who her true Father is. Steve Miller searches for a way to save his town from the affects of slow decay and learns to face his deepest fears.
What fun to create a town, as Bryant has done. Miller’s Creek, Texas, is people with an eclectic collection of characters who remind us of our neighbors and ourselves. When a town is dying of old age and neglect, what are the businesses that remain? The diner and the beauty parlor, of course. A vet, the mayor who is a descendant of the town founders and must make his real living as a rancher. They might outwardly welcome the niece of a beloved community member, but when they’re just as quick to turn around and blame her when vandalism hits hard and fast.
In an attempt to start over after the death of her business-minded father and her cheating husband, Dani decides to jump out of her life in Dallas and into the slow flow of the country. Unwittingly she makes the same social errors that she derides in her mother’s upscale socialite life—that of trying to buy friendship and love. She falls instantly in love with her aunt. She knows she can help Steve rebuild Miller’s Creek, but she also fears the trappings of faith, love, and marriage, since all she’s experienced in those areas are remorse.
Bryant’s story is ultimately one of the faith journey, which she paces quite well. What would it take to come to accept Christ’s saving grace? How deep the tragedy, the loss, the joy, does a person need to face before she’s able to see God face to face for the loving Savior he is? Bryant’s series explores this side of humanity in a homey setting.

Dani Davis loves being a teacher in Dallas but the rest of her life has fallen apart. Losing her father, her husband and a fight with her mother puts her on the road to Miller Creek to visit her Aunt Beth and maybe find a place she can call home. Steve Miller hates the city and can tell right away that’s where Dani’s from. Sparks fly between these two before they even make it to town! As she settles in for her visit she begins to envy the sense of belonging that the people of Miller Creek have. They all seem to accept and like her and she is beginning to think she has finally found the home see seeks. Aunt Beth keeps telling her that our only real home is with Jesus. As talk of renovating the town begins she decides she could help by secretly putting her inheritance to good use. But when bad things start happening and rumors begin to make there way around town that Dani is somehow involved she feels like the home she’s just found is slowly fading away.
I LOVED this story! Cathy’s writing is vibrant and fresh. It’s loaded with very likeable characters and zippy dialog. I enjoyed getting to know Dani. What an honest woman she was. Steve was a great hero who would do whatever he could to protect those he loves. Aunt Beth is a gem. What a wise woman of God. The secondary characters were very well drawn and I felt like I wanted to move to Miller Creek myself. This was Cathy Bryant’s first novel but her writing is that of a seasoned author. She kept me turning pages from start to finish. You could tell this author was writing from the heart. I love the spiritual message of this story. We can all relate to finding a place to call home. I’m looking forward with great anticipation to future works by Cathy Bryant. I highly recommend this book.

Texas Roads is one of those books that captures your attention from the first and doesn't let go until the last page. Cathy cleverly paints a picture that draws the reader into the story. While reading, I was no longer in my home, I was in Miller's Creek. I walked the streets of the town and relaxed in the shade of the trees that dotted the countryside. I smelled the food cooking and enjoyed conversations on Mama Beth's porch. I struggled with the characters in their trials and rejoiced with them in their victories. This is one book that you won't want to miss! I can hardly wait for the next book!

A heart gripping tale written with exceptional skill, Texas Roads is a book you will not want to put down. Cathy has succeeded in showing how God takes the bad things in our life and makes it all beautiful in His time. Not only was I spell-bound to the very end, but I finished the story wanting more. Great job, Cathy! I can't wait to read your next Miller Creek novel!

I couldn't put this book down! The story moves quickly, with no wasted words. Dani's struggle to find a true home and get over her past abuses spoke to my heart. But God is still in the healing business, and watching and living through the healing process with these people in Miller's Creek brought a healing to my own heart. May God bless you as you read this book. And may God continue to bless Cathy Bryant, so we can read more of her works!
