In the book's three essays, the author examines several environmental issues that are often overlooked by the media and sometimes forgotten by the public at large. The first essay discusses how the National Park Service has been slaughtering white fallow deer in Point Reyes National Seashore because they are a non-native species. The second essay describes the pine beetle infestation that has swept through Colorado and killed thousands of acres of trees. The final essay talks about Florida, the weather, and the loss of natural habitat because of all those people who love that weather.
