I stumbled upon this book after taking a recent business trip to L'viv from the US. It was my first time in Europe and I don't speak a lick of Ukrainian. The narrator seems to have been at a little bit more of an advantage by knowing some phrases and at least being able to cobble together somewhat understandable words and phrases. I had to depend on the mercy of the English speakers at my company and the few people I came across while getting around. I really enjoyed reading about a similar perspective and some adventures that I'm glad I didn't have. I'm of Polish descent and the description of the Polish history of the city was fascinating. Some of the same places I visited were mentioned such as the opera house. It's a very beautiful and historic city (the many names come from who occupied it at the time). I just wish the story had been longer. It made me want more.
