Take a college girl dreaming of a strange man while pursued by another, add a best friend who knows more than she'll admit, throw in a little reincarnation, a few paranormal characters and you have Bonnie Bernard doing what she does best. Welcome to a paranormal romance with a side of prophecy, chaos and revenge.

What's a girl to do when her best friend insists you have to go with her to a club for high school kids? Why, go with her, of course! What Donna McCormick doesn't know about the darker side of town could get her killed. Her best friend didn't tell her she's the bait to catch a serial kidnapper, one who's been grabbing girls from the club that aren't seen again and just happen to fit Donna's description. Anger, hurt feelings, a brief argument later and Donna agrees to be the bait anyway.

There's more wrong in town than tall blonde girls going missing. The police aren't doing anything about it and couldn't care less. Anyone on the force who does, turns up missing. Things are getting strange in town and are about to get stranger and more dangerous. Cryptic warnings from a strange man hiding in the shadows, rescued by the same man after a bizarre encounter with the police and Donna couldn't get any more confused. Her dreams are becoming nightmares that leave bruises behind when she wakes up.

Bernard has created a great fantasy world with a wonderful cast of paranormal characters. She's taken what we thought we knew about vampires and put a new twist on them. And of course her signature wit just makes it even better. I enjoyed this book so much the first time I read it, that I immediately bought the sequels and tore through them as well. I've read this book a few times and expect I'll be reading it again sometime. Each time the experience is just as good as the previous.

For me, this was a fun, easy read. I enjoyed her characters immensely. The way they interact with each other kept me entertained all the way through. Dante, Trent, and Samee are a blast. Mo, the best friend is just too much fun, too suspicious of everyone, but a girl couldn't ask for a better best friend. I would so love to see each of these characters get their own book. (Hint, hint, Bonnie). Make sure to read the other books in the series as well. Definitely worth the time.

Wow!! I was absolutely blown away by this book! It's going to be very difficult for me to write this review without giving away a few spoilers, but I'll try my best.

From page one it was clear that something wasn't quite right in the town of West Windington, but what ensued was so far from what I'd been expecting and it was amazing! Strangers in blue Toyotas stalking college girls, scary guys in black Broncos killing people, kidnapping, evil minion cops, Vampires and other Underworld characters, soul selling and eternal love. Yup, this book delivers all of this and so much more.

The characters were exciting, each in their own way and so well defined that I almost expected them to walk right off the page and into my life! It would have made my year if the delicious, Hunter, had! *sigh* Donna is one lucky girl! I loved how the multitude of personalities played off each other, even those with hate/hate relationships. I particularly enjoyed Mo, she's a bit crazy but with good intentions. She constantly proved what a great friend she was, even going so far as nearly staking her best friend's boyfriend.

Although the idea of "reincarnation" and eternal love is something I've read about before, the story behind Donna and Hunter's love was unique. Their relationship heated up pretty quickly but it was clear why it was so easy for them to connect, or should that be reconnect? I especially loved the explination Hunter gave Donna about how he re-awakens. It was an awww moment for me and it made their love all the more special. Their relationship felt real and it certainly wasn't one of perfection. It was great to see a female MC stand up for herself against the "man" she loves. She fought back when his anger flared (please don't take that the wrong way, Hunter never abused Donna!!) and never once allowed him to control her, even if it resulted in a brush with death.

This book also had plenty of terrifying characters and situations to balance the romance. Stephen, the evil brother out for revenge. He was wicked through and through and his hate drove him to wreak havoc. He was merciless and determined for history to repeat itself. Although he didn't feature prominently in the book, there was always the sense that he was lurking in the shadows ready to pounce!

So there you have it. Again, let me say WOW!! This book could have easily become predictable or just another Vampire story, but it wasn't. Bonnie Bernard is an amazingly talented writer, and I am delighted to be diving straight into book 2 of this series. The ending held so much excitement and promise for what's to come and I can't wait to see what lies ahead for all involved!

A Lovely Blend of Tradition and Innovation - 4.2/5 stars

Plot: 4/5 stars
I loved the set-up for this story and, despite thinking I had the ending all figured out from the beginning, was happy to devour every word. As it turned out, I didn't have the ending figured out at all but, for the first time, that was because I was expecting a bigger plot twist than what I received which is why I am giving this part of the review 4 stars rather than 5. It was a great story - but it didn't particularly surprise me.

Characters: 4/5 stars
Your main character is a seemingly pretty but otherwise plain-Jane who will inevitably become the super hero of the series. Her best friend is a quirky, spunky, off beat girl with crazy spiky hair. Her leading man is insanely delicious, broody, and - at times - dramatic. Yes, Twilight fans, if it sounds familiar to you I do understand. HOWEVER, the characters were well-written, believable, likeable, and extremely entertaining!

Writing: 5/5 stars
In the beginning the impression that I got was that the writing was unpolished but, as I read, I realized that this author just has an exceptionally unique style and the more I read the more it worked for me. It's not conventional, but it's extremely effective! Her tone and pacing makes the funny quirks in her characters even funnier and quirkier and by the end of the book it was like crack. I laughed, literally, out-loud so many times while reading this book!

Formatting/Editing: 5/5 stars
Either the self-proclaimed typo-nanny was too engrossed in the story to notice or there wasn't a single, solitary typo in this entire book. HOLY CRAP! That's so rare and Awesome!!!

Originality: 3/5 stars
So the centuries old male vampire that can read thoughts and drives a Ferrari is madly and eternally in love with the innocent and blissfully ignorant human girl who drives an old red vehicle. BUT WAIT A MINUTE!! Once you can get past the Twilightian similarities, and you should, you get to enjoy the unique elements of the book that blend a refreshing concoction of traditional vampire lore (like turning to dust from sunlight, for example) with unique and fun concepts like magical stakes, a complete lack of even basic culinary common-sense (HILARIOUS), and the idea that MOST vampires are generally good and it is the minority that goes insane and becomes blood sucking monsters. Love it!

The Midnight Hunter

This story is about a woman who meets a vampire who turns out to be her eternal partner. Very good story except I just did not like Donna. There was just something about her I found very annoying. I loved her best friend Mo, she just was a spunky woman who I guess I relate better too. Hunter was ok, a little odd in my opinion even for a vampire. I think everyone will love the other vampires, Trent and Dante though. It was a very good story that I think as the series continues will even get better. I was not as hooked with this one as I would have liked but that could be because I just did not like Donna, or her mother! I cannot wait to read the next book and see what happens next cause well I know it is going to be good.

I could not put this book down. From the moment I started reading I was enthralled. It is a refreshing take on vampires. Book One Midnight Hunter First in The Midnight Hunter Trilogy, was full of different twists and turns. When I thought I had something figured out something would happen and throw me off the scent. The story was really well written.

The characters were well written and three dimensional. They just jumped off the page. Donna is the kind of protagonist that you can't hope but root for. She is strong willed, funny, and fights for what she believes in. Her best friend Mo is a bit more reckless but you can tell she really cares about doing the right thing. The antagonist in this story was believable and made me want to see him defeated.

Overall this was a fabulous book. It had humor, drama, romance, mystery, and the sci-fi aspect. I cannot wait to read the next two books in this trilogy. I would definitely recommend it!

I'm generally not a fan of the vampire genre, but I'm definitely a fan of Bonnie Bernard's "The Midnight Hunter" series. It's a unique, fast-paced, character-driven take on the underworld. In Book 1, "Midnight Hunter," unsuspecting Donna McCormick thinks she's a normal college student, but discovers she's not. Almost nothing in her world is what she thought it was, and she's not going to survive for long if she doesn't figure out who the bad guys are. If you love interesting tales about good versus evil with characters you care about, then you'll enjoy these books. Each book is better than the next, and then there's Howie, the most intriguing character I've come across in a long time! Howie alone would be worth the read, but there's much, much more to love about this trilogy. Read it! You'll love it!

I was given this book on a read to review basis.

Although it took a little while to get into the story, once I was I was completely fascinated. The characters are more real than the dreamy types that are about at the minute, with many of them being dark and dangerous. As the story continues, more and more characters are introduced which broadens the story nicely and all of them have their own traits which adds to the detail.

The story is unique with a great mix of twists and turns, action, suspense, danger and romance (which has enough ups and downs of its own to keep you intrigued).

The book is easy to read and the author has done a great job keeping the language and descriptions simple, letting your imagination take over.

This book is the first in the Midnight Hunter Trilogy, and luckily the other two have already been released so I can continue reading straight away.

Midnight Hunter follows Donna McCormick who just had to move back to her parents’ house. Her life is in danger, but can the mysterious man in the shadows save her?
Midnight Hunter is unlike any other vampire romance I’ve ever read. It was such a refreshing and amazing read! To be honest in the first few chapters I didn’t really get into it, but as and as the story progressed I couldn’t wait to get back from college and read what happened next. The characters and the scenes are so perfectly described that I could picture it all in my head (Trust me its really hard for me to do that :P ) I loved the Grandmother Wisdom part, it was such a sweet one. But my favorite story in the book would be the story of how the organization started... Somehow it seemed funny to me and was probably how typical humans behave in such situations... Also the cover!! *-* I'd definitely pick it up if I saw it when I was passing by a store!
All in all I loved the story! It’s a perfect mix of fear, thrill, horror, romance and mystery. Come on, what else could I possibly ask for?!

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This book has it all, a bit of fear, a lot of thrill and even some mystery and steamy romance. There is definitely no sparkle in the vampires in this book, they are the frightening creatures of nightmares in their true form.
However I love how in this book vampires carry traits through with them from their mortal lives, so good people are even better vampires, while evil people are even worse vampires. I like that they are not all evil and out for blood.
The characters are easy to get along with, the main characters being Donna who suffers from terrible dreams which seep into her reality leaving her bruised and in pain, her best friend Mo, who is such a good hearted person but can be extremely out there. Mo is probably my favourite as she just blurts everything out and she is rough, no polished edges anywhere to be seen, she provides a smile through out the story with her bluntness and lack of charm.
Then there is Hunter the mysterious man in the teen dance club. Gorgeous and mysterious and the key to help Donna figure out her own life and the things that terrify her.
Sammee is a very bright bubbly ray of sunshine in a very dim world, but she adds a certain amount of freshness to everything she comes in contact with, even though I think if she were real her perkiness would send me a little bit crazy after a while.
Midnight Hunter is such an easy book to read, and I can;t wait to be swallowed up into Dawn Of The Hunter to find out what creepiness is in store for the group next.

Review 6******

I was won this book by the author in a competition a while ago, but have only just now got to read it. I'm berating myself for not reading it sooner! This is a fantastic book! I struggled to put it down!

Donna is a great character. She has a very steady head on her shoulders, and when she finds out there's vampires in the world, she doesn't panic. I would certainly be freaking out!
Mo, Donna's best friend is also a great character. She is feisty and has a take no prisoners attitude that I loved!
Hunter is hunky! Donna is one lucky lady! Not only is he her Eternal Partner, he's the love of her life.
There are some other great characters too: Sammie, Trent and Dante.
There are also some really bad guys too! Stephen is creepy, but Michael is even more so! They gave me the chills!

Bonnie Bernard has written a fantastic novel filled with action, danger and everlasting love. I am now looking forward to reading the other two books in the trilogy. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a YA book with a completely unique storyline that will keep you hooked!

Midnight Hunter by Bonnie Bernard
---------------------------------
Book 1 in the Trilogy

Not your average Vampire loves Girl story!

A whole new world opens up for you once you start reading, a world of vampires, demons, a whole lot of minions, and much, much more!

Romance, love, hate... best friends and Eternal Lovers, and it does not stop there. The author is brilliant at drawing you into Donna's world, and before you know it you are in the story for the long haul. The mythology is broad, well thought out, interesting, sound and logical.

The story is very well written, a real page turner. The characters are well developed, and none of them are "perfect", which is a big plus. The story is full of twists that keep you guessing and wanting more.

A fantastic read... I can't wait to dig into Books 2 and 3 to see how it all turns out!

I had loads of fun reading this book. I can’t believe it was so far down in my to-be-read pile and it took me so long to get around to reading it. “Midnight Hunter” is a gorgeous, fun, lighthearted, sassy, sometimes terrifying, quick read!

I loved the main characters, but my very favorite character was Mo. She’s fun, hilarious, super feisty and brutally honest…and she has no problem belching loudly in public places. The camaraderie between her and Donna is a familiar one, formed by way only a childhood friendship can. These characters aren’t just likeable, they’re completely lovable. The dialogue between these two girls will at times have you in stitches. But I also have to stress here that the further I got into the story, I found that all is not what it seemed.

As much fun as it was being drawn into Donna’s world, and breaking out into hysterical laughter time and again at Mo’s antics, much of the story thoroughly freaked me out and had shivers running down my spine. You know those movies in which the cops in a small town go really bad and you can’t turn to them for help and they’re actually much scarier than the bad guys? This book will take you right there. And then you’ll get to the parts where some characters start acting all creepy…I’m getting chills just thinking about it. Really, there will be times while reading this novel, you’ll check under your bed - just to be safe.

Bonnie Bernard’s wonderfully quirky writing style is outright unique. Laced with laugh-out-loud humor and choc-full of adrenaline-pumping thrills and chills, the author proves to have a natural knack for taking the reader on a rollercoaster ride of different emotions.

So you, you and you! Whether you’re eighteen or eighty one, this book is for you. Give it a go and then come back here and thank me for enthusiastically for recommending this absolutely amazing five-star read!

This is the first book in The Midnight Hunter Trilogy, and I have to say, it’s definitely a great start! I enjoyed this book from the very beginning even through the author bio in the back! Yes, I said it! I even read the author bio and it made me giggle!

Midnight Hunter mainly focuses on a young woman named Donna. Even from the beginning, Donna has strange dreams that seem to get a little too close for comfort. Soon enough, she even starts to sustain injuries from things that happen in her dreams.

Donna’s friend, Mo, decides she wants to take Donna to a club. What Donna wasn’t aware of at first is the fact that girls matching Donna’s description had been disappearing from this club. Preferring to stay further away from crowds, Donna head to a more secluded place in the club where she meets Hunter, your typical broody male vampire. We soon find out that Hunter is the brother of the man responsible for the disappearances.

While there are some pieces of this story that do fall into the category of “typical vampire romance,” I found myself drawn into this story by parts that were really very unique. I even found myself loving a few of the lesser characters. Really that’s something that Bonnie Bernard does very well. She knows how to bring amazing characters. In fact, there was even one character, specifically a weapons dealer, that we only got to meet through a phone call and a few brief mentions in conversations, that I would love to be a fly on the wall to watch inside his shop even for a day!

Overall, I loved this book from cover to cover! If you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out!

Donna, an out of work, upper middle class college student, is thrown into a world of the supernatural. Vampires, minions, hitmen, missing girls, corrupt politicians, and family problems(not just hers), and she's at the center of it all. She doesn't know who to trust or what to do. She has to stay alive as she sorts through all of the drama, with the help of Hunter, she may just make it.

Midnight Hunter by Bonnie Bernard

The first book of the The Midnight Hunter trilogy sets the character scene extremely well. Physical surroundings not germane to experiencing the characters are kept in check. What stands out the most in Midnight Hunter are the characters. The art gone into them seems natural and this quality induced the reader to endear even the purposely annoying ones.

Foremost is Donna. She is “different” struggling in vain not to be. She has “goddess toes.” Everyone who knows about the trait except her seem to recognize and understand their meaning. Donna is successfully portrayed as a tad socially awkward but of solid internal constitution in spite of her habit of second-guessing herself. Donna is a wholly believable character and nicely paired with her rather mysterious lover, Hunter, who is a rather incredible character. Yet revealing all there is to know in the first book of a trilogy ruins all the fun! Donna’s misgivings and quirks of personality are both convincing and endearing. Desperate for a “normal” and “orderly” life, that she knows deep down is outside the ken of her destiny, this character does most of the heavy lifting in the plot.
Speaking of heavy loads, Mo, is another very well-crafted character. Bossy, opinionated and pushy are just a few words that come to mind describing her. But she genuinely loves Donna, her best friend. Both aspects of this rather rough-edged character are well played throughout Midnight Hunter. If this book were a movie, Mo would win, hands down as best supporting actor. Mo is fierce one minute, tender the next; hateful then ogling. There is a reason for it but telling you may be a spoiler.

The interaction of the characters is what kept me reading. The dynamic of secondary family complications was well done for both Mo and Donna. They each have their issues and it adds to their roundedness as people rather than merely characters. After just a short time reading the dialog between the characters, each developed a “voice” of their own in my imagination. That’s not common.

Midnight Hunter, the first book in Bonnie Bernard’s paranormal suspense series, introduces readers to a world full of danger, where vampires and other supernatural creatures exist alongside humans—but unbeknownst to most of them. Donna, the heroine, already suffering from frighteningly real nightmares and the memories of an old tragedy, falls into danger when a serial killer begins targeting women who resemble her. An unlikely protector appears, but can she trust him—even as she finds that they have an undeniable chemistry?

Bernard has created a world that will remind readers favorably of Buffy the Vampire Slayer—but, intriguingly, with a more vulnerable heroine. In a genre increasingly filled with tough, super-empowered heroines, Donna is a protagonist we can really relate to and feel compassion for. She has good reason to be frightened, and she reacts like a normal person would when she suddenly finds herself in danger from forces she didn’t even believe existed. It will be fascinating to see how Donna develops and grows into her role as heroine as the series continues.

All of the characters, in fact, are vividly drawn, and even relatively minor supporting characters are fleshed out and memorable. It’s my understanding that the Hunter books were originally intended to stop at three but that readers loved the characters so much that they demanded a continuation of the series. Now, that’s a testament to the power of strong characterization!

I always enjoy stories that leaven suspense with humor, and Midnight Hunter does that ably, as well as bringing in a compelling thread of romance. With a gripping plot, snappy dialogue, and memorable characters, this looks like the start of a truly compelling series.

Review for Midnight Hunter by Bonnie Bernard

Having finished this book last night I am still under its spell. The Author weaves a story that includes realistic imperfect characters, who could easily be your next door neighbor or your best friend!
With unexpected twists and turns laced through this Paranormal Romance, Suspense Novel, like a fine weave, it kept me reading eagerly, to see what came next, it is definitely NOT just another Paranormal Romance story, employing intriguing characters who rise out of the page to tell you the story as if you were sitting in the room with them.
Words I would use to describe this book?
Descriptive, deceptive, unique, intriguing, exciting, heart warming and more.
This book crosses the borders between Romance, Paranormal, Suspense, Magical and Mundane. It offers excitement and adventure, love and mystery.
The Plot is unique, and surprising, offering many surprises! But I won’t tell you what they are because you will not want this book spoiled for you!
Suffice it to say I will probably read this book again! I am starting book 2 Dawn of the Hunter today and looking forward to every minute of it!
A Must Read for those who enjoy the Paranormal!

I am always so happy when I read a book about vampires and find myself surprised, and yes, color me happy! Bonnie Bernard wrote a truly riveting story that captured my attention on page one and I couldn't tear myself away from it. First of all, she had me trying to guess where the plot was going, which is one element I LOVE! I couldn't figure it out to save my life. Instead of frustrating me, it made me really dig into the story. I read it even more slowly than usual, because I was afraid of missing important details!
I refuse to post spoilers - I hate them! There's no reason to buy the book if you know the whole darn story! Please take my word for it...the book description is exactly perfect...it's a suspenseful, mysterious, joyful ride to figure out who are the good guys and the bad guys, and I promise that there is not a better way to spend your money than on this book! I'm diving right into the next one, 'cuz I HAVE to...it's just THAT good!
Ms. Bonnie, you are going places, Ma'am, and I am so happy that I will be able to say I knew you when =)
