In his later years he became repugnantly obese, and he seemed to enjoy the disgust this inspired in his acquaintances. His conduct in social affairs was extraordinarily indecent. His perversions were vast and varied. His very existence, in fact, was an insult to every respectable quality of mankind. It humiliates me to admit it, but I used to enjoy spending time with Oliver..."
