Impressions of Tulou

During the 1980s, Americans saw via satellite images what they thought were missile-launching silos dotting the countryside of Southeast China. The so-called silos turned out to be the tulou, one of China's best-kept architectural secrets. Author Wu Yiyu shares his experiences with these remarkable earth and wood structures, complete with his own drawings.
