Short description

On Kate's night out, she had the bad luck to run into the Ragoon. Sixteen, no Comprehensive Personal License and no note from her owner. It's off to the Merced Human Rehabilitation Center for her. But an automobile accident and an absent minded father leads to a chance encounter with a famous movie star (he is famous in his own mind.) What's a girl to do? Sexual situations but no graphic stuff

Extended description

We've all read about alien invasions where they smash all resistance, use us for food, take our resources without paying, or have some other nefarious plan for us. But what if they were merchants who were colonizing us just like Europeans colonized much of Africa and Asia. What if the reason they imposed slavery on one of our genders was due to their physiology and taboos and had nothing to do with being inherently evil? What if they didn't care if our resistance fighters killed some of their comrades? What if they had no concept of revenge? What if all they cared about was their profit and loss statement? What if they were required by their laws to pay us for what they took or harvested? What if they just wanted for everyone to get along? Provided we obey a few simple rules.

This was a very readable short story about a girl on the verge of womanhood and her relationship with a young man to whom she is assigned. Although it is a quick read, the grammar errors are a little distracting. This book is listed as a ya read. The content certainly fits in that category, but the writing style seems more suited for a much younger audience. Adding more depth to the characters and complexity to the sentences would add a lot to this story.

Cute, inventive story, likeable characters, well-written. The "sci-fi" aspects are basically just background and shouldn't scare off anyone not "into" sci-fi. Although the story is categorized as Young Adult, I'm way, way, past YA and I still enjoyed it.

Lots of punctuation errors. Repeated ignorant misuse of the apostrophe caused me to bring the rating down to 4 stars.
