How a Hero Saves the City”

Bobby Sorrell had had a long, hard day. He’d been pulling twelve-hour shifts over at Newside Construction, and he’d just finished a double. He wasn’t officially supposed to have a double shift, but the foreman was willing to pay him under the table from time to time and that was just fine with Bobby. He stopped off at the convenience store down the street from his house, and now he was looking at the food on display. He stood staring, not quite tracking what he was reading on each box, finally deciding to just pick up whatever was brightly colored. Bobby was so out of it that at first he didn’t register the attendant saying, “Ho-lee SHIT.”

Once he processed the words, he looked up and then started staring in the same direction. A man and a woman were out on the asphalt that covered the parking lot, buck naked and engaged in some pretty strenuous sex. Now that he was paying attention, Bobby thought that it sounded like pretty good sex, too, the way she was screaming encouragement to her partner. He grinned, enjoying the show.

The attendant was more concerned. “Aw, hell. What the hell should I do? I gotta call the cops, I guess.” He appeared reluctant, and Bobby waved his hand at the man.
