“Yes, how do you feel? Are you in any pain?”

“A little.”

“Do you want something for it?”

“No.”

“If you want, I will call General Sherman and schedule a meeting for tomorrow 11:00 a.m.,” I said.

“Ok,” Bear replied in a near whisper.

I sat down in the corner of his room and made the call. Bear was half-awake when I told him that Admiral Lewis and General Sherman would be here at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow sharp.

Bear dozed on and off until early evening. I helped him with his dinner tray which was chicken broth and tea, in addition to cherry Jello requested by the Major himself. Bear went to bed at 10:00 p.m. I kept busy reading some PT reports until midnight. Before I retired, I checked the monitors and recorded Bear’s vitals. Three times that night, the monitors went off. At 7:00 a.m., I had only three hours sleep. It was time I requested some help.
