Wall Street Reckoning

By Georgiann Baldino

Beda Runn dangled a chartreuse shoe from her right big toe. “I’m an emissary from your investors.” Her shoe flip-flopped like a metronome and marked the cadence of Beda’s voice.

Phoebe McDermott expected the pump to careen off Beda’s foot. Flip, flap, Beda timed her foot perfectly—very annoying. Even more disturbing, Beda paired bright green shoes with a fuchsia-red suit. What kind of person looked and acted like that? People on Wall Street followed a strict set of rules. They all dressed a certain way; fashion sense was high on the list of qualifications for brokers and dealers. Players might wear red but not the color of deep-sea vent worms, the poisonous kind, and god forbid never paired with chartreuse pumps. The outrageous outfit made Beda look like poison.
